Jeff Goodman's incredible work tracking all transfers over at CBS Sports continues.

He now has knowledge of 441 transfers from last year's teams.

I use 4000 as my estimate for total players plying D1 every year, so my guess is that's 11% of all players.

You could actually say the number is close to 4500 if every D1 school had all 13 spots filled, but there are empty spots, etc., so I believe the number stays close to 4000 each year.

The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

has this transfer rate stayed roughly steady over time or has it increased in the last few years?

Haven't you heard?  Even Wisconsin has now felt the ramifications of this phenomenon, so clearly it has increased to an uncontrollable point.

The Equalizer

Part of the growth is due to the graduate transfer eligiblity rule.  It looks like 30 on this year's list have graduated from their old schools with an additional year of eligibility remaining, thus they can transfer and play immedeately elsewhere.
