From my old home town newspaper, the St. Paul Pioneer Press:

http://www.twincities.com/ci_6246302?source=most_viewed

As long as Tom Crean remains men's basketball coach at Marquette, 6-8 Trevor Mbakwe of St. Paul remains committed to the program even though he still has to gain eligibility for his freshman season.

That being said in the press, I can't remember the last comment I heard (there have been many), but IIRC, it was something about him getting a good score on something, and things were looking up.

ecompt

could this be the reason we are one over on schollies? TC knew Trevor would have problems qualifying?

mu_hilltopper

I think it's been like a game of frogger, jumping from one option to another.

NCAA adds a schollie<jump>
Trend flunks out<jump>
DJ is going pro<jump>
DJ Not going pro<jump>
Mbakwe doesn't show, or isn't qualified<jump>
Other freshman doesn't make it<jump>
Maybe Fitz pays his own way<jump>

Pardon my naivette, but assuming everyone is eligible what do we do?  How do they determine who does not make the team.

Well, once all 4 freshmen are qualified ..

Every guy on the team packs their suitcase and shows up at the Al.  They each take 100 free throws.  Whoever hits the fewest is fired, and gets into a cab waiting on Wells to take them to the airport.

If that is how its going to be decided that DJ should have stayed in the draft.

actually, if Dwight Burke were part of that competition he would have been gone long ago. One of the worst touches I have ever seen.

muwarrior87

it would be a close race between about 5 or 6 guys if it went to free throws to see who left.

A good source told me that Jon Harris was going to be a special assistant in charge of freethrow shooting this year.

I saw Hazel at reseating and a staff member said the Christopherson was coming in the next day.

Hazel and Christopherson are on campus....Mbakwe and Saunders are NOT as of yet.

This sounds similar to Wade's situation, no?

I saw Christopherson and Hazel on campus on Monday morning at a little after 8 ...

I'm not making this up ... I was walking south of the engineering building and saw the two ... they must have been going to their first class ... I had just walked past them when they stopped a lady with Hazel saying "Excuse me Ma'am, could you tell me where Lallumiere Hall is?"

I saw from a little bit of a distance that they both headed into LL. I had my first class at MU in that awful, awful building (French, yuck).

I thought, "Welcome to MU!"

I guess the story w/ Mbwake is he just recently took the ACT or SAT again, and got a better score than what he had prior.  What he is doing now is taking a class (a retake from a class he took as a freshman, where he messed up)...depending on how he does on this retake class, he'll be good to go, but all indications are he's doing well in it.

Basically he went through what many do. He had problems early on in his high school academics that he's now trying to straighten out (Much like I did, 2.0 GPA first two years of high school, 3.75 GPA the last two.)

Him transferring schools this last year greatly helped him academically according to other sources I have read.

ozmetal71

That's good news if that is in fact the case.

I just don't want to see a repeat of Lazar's situation last year where he was held hostage by the NCAA because of a paperwork technicality.

muhoops1

If you want to see him play next year...figure out which JuCo he'll attend in or around the Twin Cities.
