I count seven. Obviously we shouldn't count the two chicken's before they hatch (DJO and Jae still need to make the team), but can't help feeling really good about the direction the program took the other night when we got two drafted in one class. Has that ever happened before? Get big smiles watching the Mavericks and Lakers fans come ask us about our players.

-D. Wade
-Novak
-Wes
-Lazar
-Jimmy
-DJO
-Jae

Anyone I'm missing?

Maybe Tyshawn Taylor.

And next year, maybe Mbawke.

1983 was the last time two in a class were drafted.  I believe it was Doc in the second round and Schuldt in the seventh round.

In the pros or in the NBA? We've got a lot of guys that are playing professionally, including Buycks, James, Burke, Acker, Fitzgerald, Barro, McNeal, Berkowitz, Blackledge, Chapman, Diener...I'm sure the list goes on and on. All are playing somewhere professionally.

But not since 1978 (Butch Lee and Jerome Whitehead) have we had two taken in the first two round.

5 players in total were drafted that year with Boylan (4th), Payne (9th) and Rosenberger (9th) being selected but never actually playing in the NBA.

And does Zar have a guaranteed contract anymore?

Yes, one year left. Then a team option of $2.1 million (2013) and a qualifying option of $3.1 million (2014). Pending a massive improvement this off-season, Lazar has one year left with the Thunder, and maybe the NBA.

I concur.  I suspect Zar might then take his talents to Europe.

I'm thrilled how Steve found a way to hang around as the 13th man for several years until he found his niche.  What I find so humorous is that I believe the undergrads picked him 5th (of 5) for the 3 point shooting contest last fall at MU Madness.  What a difference a year can make!

I've heard that Steve was so pissed off by that slight that he decided then and there to become a three-point specialist.

I told the fiancee that he should be the first pick, and she said "what about Wade?" I just chuckled and when Novak was picked, told her that was the team that would win. Honestly, I'm not sure there's a better 3-point shooter on the planet. Really think he deserved consideration for the Olympic team strictly based on 3-point shooting and how hard he is to guard in a catch-and-shoot.

I remember that.  I couldn't believe Steve was picked so late in a 3-point shooting contest.  Silly.  That was a lot of fun to watch, though.

Agreed that it was absurd to pick Steve last for a "3" contest.  I recall thinking that these kids had no idea who he was.   :o
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

I would have probably picked D Wade first. I would rather meet him and be on his team than win. After that though, Novak is my no doubt number 2 pick.
