If he signs his NLI at UConn, by rule he will never by able to play at MU.

he should not sign a LOI, he should just enroll and sign scholarship paperwork.  What if he does not get cleared by the NCAA?

We have two for 2012 and one for 2013 (assuming everyone returns.)  If Lockett comes here, he will use one of the 2012 scholarships, still leaving one for 2013.

since Jones and Durley are both gone doesnt that mean theres 2 for 2012 and 2013? Otule's 6th year takes one of the available 2012's so theres one left isnt there? If Lockett takes it then were full for 2012. Or does he not use a schollie since he is graduating? I don't know.

oh yeah got mixed up there for some reason thought Otule had his 6th year next year forgot we were one over for 2013 with Wilson. McKay should be who we take in 2013.

Kid reminds me of Monterale Clark... very long and oozing with potential but red flags.  I worry about kids who repeatedly change schools.  Either they don't know what they want or are more likely being advised by people who aren't looking out for their best interests.  I don't even remember UCONN being mentioned much and he ends up choosing them.

UConn after being banned from next year's tournament and losing players wasn't in a position to be too choosey, similar to St. John's last year.

Which makes me wonder, why the heck would Nolan choose UCONN?  We're doing a WV sidestep around it, but let's just put the cards on the table.... UCONN is going to have mirror games with DePaul next year, and the year after, and probably the year after that.  Calhoun's health isn't exactly tip-top, and his days on the court are numbered; if he doesn't recognize that soon, then his days off the court are going to be numbered, too.  UCONN isn't even close to rebuilding yet... you can't rebuild until the demolition is complete and a new architect is brought in.  Who knows how long Calhoun sticks around, but I'm willing to bet UCONN's class of 2012 will never see the dance; 2013 sees it only if someone goes on the Otule (not Abromaitis) plan.

Nolan had better suitors than UCONN.  He had, according to Rivals, offers from AZ, Baylor, ISU, MD, MN, MU, etc.  Any one of those gives Nolan the opportunity to dance next year - maybe the next four years - and he chose a school where he'll be lucky to even sniff the NIT -- but not for three years?  (I'm using the term "chose" extremely liberally.)

As much as I would have loved seeing him at MU... something stinks about his decision.  Either UCONN wired a few G's to a BMO branch on the northside, or Nolan is a red-hot risk to not qualify.  In fact, my guess is that he doesn't even see the court in 2012-13, but UCONN will have a scholarship to give, so they'll spend a year trying to get his act together and hope for his eligibility in 2013.

Either way, I do wish the kid the best and hope he recognizes the magnitude of the opportunity he has before him; there's not a heck of a lot of high D-I talent - relative to the rest of the country - comes out of Milwaukee these days, so I still want to support the local kids... as long as they don't go 90 miles west.

He gets to play for what many perceive to be a blue-blood, and play immediately. No, they won't be in the tourney in 2013, but they will still be a team getting national games from November-February. He is positioned to be a marquee player on one of the biggest "name" teams in the Big East by 2013-14.

Granted, UConn may not be what it was by the time a year or three go by, but I'm sure they sold him the UConn brand, which with a NC only 1 year removed, is still a pretty strong selling point. My guess is Nolan is banking on UConn being back to being UConn within a year. UConn is banking on fringe top-100 players like Nolan being good enough to keep them relevant and help them get back on top once they are upperclassmen. Will it work? Who knows? But it makes perfect sense in my eyes.

Again, I really don't know, but based on the JS article not mentioning anyone beyond UConn and St. John's, it seems entirely possible that several of Nolan's offers were based on him reclassifying to 2013.
