I'm not an insider, but according to some of the people on the scout board who are, in the article on the TCU scout site about Durley signing with them, Durley's mother is quoted saying that it was a mutual decision and that they approached MU.   If somebody who is an insider could go and get the exact quotes, the crow buffet could start serving.

If it's on the TCU Scout site, you have to sign up there to be an insider. Being a member on the MU Scout site doesn't carry over to other Scout sites.

EDIT: Ignore that...articles you can see, threads you cannot. Here are a few highlights:

The 6'10, 280 pound center from George Bush High School was originally signed with Marquette, but Durley called it a "mutual decision" to part ways.

Dana Durley, Aaron's mother, said, "Aaron is a special case because he has only lived for five years in the states. We just thought it may not have been the best fit for him to go all the way to Marquette."

-----

"Marquette was just so far away and we felt like it may not have been the best fit. They were very nice about letting him switch. It was a mutual decision, but when we heard TCU might be interested, we were just thrilled," Dana Durley said. "We love the university, size, the kids, and the area that comes with TCU."

So Durley might not have been "Buzz Cut?"

Doesn't appear to be that way.  I thought all Marquette transfers were Buzzcuts?

You must be a Badger fan.

Not going to get in a big debate about this, but when Durley was saying things like "it hurts" and he clearly was rooting for MU during the NCAA, I think it was suggested to him that they look elsewhere and that his mom is putting a nice spin on her quotes.

"It may not have been the best fit for him to go all the way up to Marquette (because he likely wouldn't have played much and may have been let out of his scholarship after his first year.)"

tower912

I think this is going to be one of the few times I just flat out disagree with you, Sultan.   Feels weird.    I have seen nothing from any of the principal players that indicate that this was anything other than at worst a mutual decision.    And the first move appears to have been made by the Durley's.    Did it have the consequence of giving Buzz some flexibility with his scholarships for the next couple of years?    Yup.     Do I feel that this is Buzz driven?   Not at all.

I think the disconnect here will be Buzz's comments on his last show of the year. He indicated Durley might not be coming, then we find out he indeed is not coming, then we finally get this side of the story.

I have no idea what the truth is, but the kid landed at a high-major (or soon enough) program close to home, and it sounds like the Marquette staff helped him get there. I really wanted Durley here, but I feel a lot more at-ease about this situation than I did initially.

GGGG

Yeah me too....just going to drop it.  It worked out for everyone.

MuMark

The one thing I know about moms(in general) is if one of their kids is wronged they will scream it from the highest roof top if given the chance.

If the kid had indeed been "cut" she would have ripped MU or said nothing at all. No way she would spin it postively to help MU.....no way no how.

Best of luck to Aaron and the Durely family.

I'm happy to be wrong on this one.

Let's hope this kind of situation doesn't happen again for all parties involved.

4everwarriors

I don't really care, 'cuz I think this is a win/win situation for all concerned. But, the quotes from family smell like damage control statements. And, that's ok with me. No harm, no foul.

I'm with brew and sultan in that I was one of the stronger reactions to the release, and I mirror their comments again about not wanting to get into it all over again. But I think there are a couple of potentially mitigating circumstances here we'll never know about. Among them:
- if someone from MU played a role in Durley landing at TCU
- the whole distance thing doesnt exactly seem like the number one reason behind anything, given that no one had any problem with Durley coming to MKE a couple of months ago
- Buzz coming out first in his interview, even though if he had been approached by the Durleys about Aaron staying in Texas at that time, the timeframe on this likely would've been different
- Enlunds interview of Durley's coach, which what we've seen from Enlund still seems like it has a lot of lines to read between in its own right.
- Durley's tweet immediately after the release

Moral of the story - the true way this went down was almost surely somewhere very close to the middle between the buzzcut rage and Mrs Durley calling up MU and saying "Mr Williams, if its okay with you, Aaron would really prefer to stay close to home in Texas."

Sultan, didn't you say when this first came out that you didn't like this, but lets wait until we hear Durley's side of the story.  So, now we hear his mom's side of the story from the Durley camp and you don't believe/agree with her?  If in fact the Durley camp was wronged, why in the world would she put a nice spin on this to benefit Marquette?

Nukem2

Yeah, there probably was a bit of spin from both sides.  Hope it works out for Aaron as he really should have considered the 5th year prep school route as he played sparingly as a senior, was out with Achilles injury as a junior and played at a very small school at a low level as a soph.  Young man really needs to get some court time under his belt.

What possible reason would Aaron and his mom have to spin this for Marquette at this point?

The only reason I can think of is because they still have positive feelings for Marquette. If MU screwed them over, I imagine his mom wouldn't have any interest in protecting Marquette. While it may not have ended perfectly, it does seem to have ended amicably.

We R Final Four

Exactly the reason that we should not trust her.  ::)

forgetful

Often the real truth is a mixture of everything we hear/see.  It is possible/likely that Durley really wanted to go to MU and prove he could compete, but that his family and coach were suggesting it might not be the best idea.  In the end, they found a possible landing spot close to home and had a sit down with Buzz where he may likely have said that going to TCU might be best for him (coaches and family onboard, but not necessarily Durley).

In that case it still would hurt a bit, but he also may have known it was best.

As Nukem said, I think they are likely are both spinning.

Okay, this is who caused this. It is not hard to imagine Durley following MU and coming to this site to read about what is going on. The fault lies with the posters here that he consistantly said they did not want him. which of course led to him second guessing about coming to MU. Why go where the fans do not want you. Time will tell whether he will be a good player or not, but I think this site has to shoulder the blame for him changing his mind. It seems like their are always some posters on this site against MU recruiting some player, while they drool over Tokato or Nunn who did not and will not come to MU. Heck there are still posters hoping that Tokato transfers from UNC to MU.

She's not spinning it for MU's sake. Rather to put her son in the best light.
