It could possibly be a different Mac Irvin Fire team.  When they played at Homestead they were in the small gym and I walked in there and a Mac Irvin Fire team was playing.  Neither Okafor nor Parker were playing.  The court was an hour behind, and after that game ended the Mac Irvin Fire team with Okafor and Parker came on to play Mean Streets.

Is their point guard number 5?

Yes, saw Parker on bench.  They really didn't need him.

Don't think Marquette is in on BeeJay Anya, but he should be there. Plays for Team Takeover, a top-20 prospect for 2013 at center. ;D

I'd say more of the point guard type  ;D

We chatted for about 10 minutes. He was most helpful, as he knew, and pointed out players to watch.  I'm kinda new to this AAU stuff.

I took my son with me.  He really enjoyed it too.  We were right on the floor, and spitting distance from a ton of top 20 head coaches.  It was a blast watching future D1, and potential NBA players from court side.  I would highly recommend this type of an event.

The refs did a good job of swallowing their whistles and letting the kids play.  The Mac Irvin team was the most physical of all the teams I saw.

No sign of Chicos and Crean having a cold one together.

What were your thoughts on Duane Wilson? Kendrick nunn?

Didn't see Nunn.  JayBee saw that game and can give details.

Wilson is very quick.  However, his team was being outplayed, and out muscled by Mac Irvin.  Irvin was up by ten for a while, then lead was cut to 2.  They got a ten point lead back in the 2nd half when I left.

Then you must not have been in The Bail Bondsman's back yard.

Saw Steve Taylor.  He's the real deal.  I thought he was very physical, and a good touch. Very athletic.

Are you sure?  I thought seniors generally stopped playing AAU ball.

#23 today was Steve Taylor, according to their roster.   Simeon HS.  I was surprised too.  Must not be 18 yet.

real chili 83 - good to meet you.  July 20-22 you should mark your calendar (Best Buy Event at Bloomington Jefferson).

Some notes -

Iowa Barnstormers had "Free Uthoff" shirts w/his face of them... wore them with Bo Ryan in the building (they were at the NY2LA Event, also in the Twin Cities)

Taylor - there is one playing for Mac Irvin Fire, but it's Xzavier.. no four year high schoolers in the EYBL..

...which by the way means no Kyle Washington for Howard Pulley in the EYBL.  But, Kyle was playing in town at another event (he was at Hotchkiss this year [where Derrick Wilson went], after his first three years of HS at Benilde-St. Margaret's).. sounds like there is a small chance he may go back to being a 2012, but most likely still a 2013.. with a 5th year coming up at Hotchkiss.

I like Duane Wilson a lot.  He has work to do, but can be very good.  How good and how quickly will he get there? Those are the questions... 14 points 4/15 (3/5 3FG) in game 1.. he and Nunn were guarding each other much of the game.
Game 2 - 2/11 for 9 pts
Game 3 - 7/17 for 20 points on 7/17 shooting.. 75-71 nice win over CP3 (Pinson is great, 19 pts in 17 mins, fouls slowed him down though)
Game 4 - vs. Mac Irvin Fire today 4/16 for 12 points in 83-52 loss.

Wilson played some point, but quite a bit off the ball (but displayed niiice handles much of the time).  He can attack the basket when needed, also will deliver from behind the arc (at times maybe a bit too far back - 25ish feet, but he can hit them).  Several times he really beat defenders off the dribble.. nasty stuff.. when he got to the rim, had a few tough misses, but when he completed the drive... it was very impressive.  Not a lot of consistency this weekend, but he'll improve.  He has the tools.

Nunn wasn't the best shooter in the world this weekend (although he can drain it from deep).  This weekend was 2/10, 7/13, 2/10 and 5/6 from the field in his four games, respectively.  Today against Bluff City (Nick King looks great at times..) he was nice.. 13 points, 9 reb, 5 ast... he goes from defense to offense in 0.1 seconds, if that.  Ready to RUN.  Active on the def boards too despite being probably 6'1", 6'2".  Really athletic, strong.. despite the height many people would be more than happy with him as their two guard.

Very glad Duane is staying in Milwaukee.. Nunn would be a nice fit as well.

Deonte Burton is made for Marquette.  He's absolutely legit, has the potential to be *big* time.  If MU gets his physique and conditioning in top form, forget about it.  His range is coming along and if he is able to improve there -- scary.  This morning he was easily tossing in 17 footers off the dribble.

Physically, he's a strong dude that can use his body well inside... getting to the rim, drawing contact.  TP Elite doesn't have a ton of *girth* or height, so he was defending some interior guys much taller than him this weekend.. no problem.

On defense, he was blocking shots, stealing the ball, IQ was on display.  Vocal on the court; Deonte is scary good.  If everything comes together for him at MU, the sky is the limit.

Kevon Looney - only saw a little of him this weekend.. I understand why he is receiving high praise, but need to see how his game evolves as he gets bigger... size & strength isn't there yet... very skilled kid, just need to see more.  Looked good moving with the ball and has some range from the field.

Tyus Jones I see a lot of.  He's the real deal.  Very smart player.  He's not big, not the best shooter you'll find.. but he can run a team.  Some of the passes he makes are just not fair.

Jabari Parker was held out this afternoon w/an injury.  He didn't look too bad, but at times was stepping into the huddle and around on the sidelines a little gingerly.  Hope it's not something bad that will show up on an MRI, but really looked like no big deal.. probably just being held out as a precaution...

Canadian kids
Andrew Wiggins - ridiculous hops.  He can really fly.
Xavier Rathan Mayes - at first glance, he looks.. a little pudgy, wouldn't think he'd be a great basketball player.. but, he can stroke it.  Very capable scorer, should receive a lot of attention.  Can rack up points in a hurry.

Paul White - Whitney Young / Meanstreets - he's gotta be about 6'8"... had his shot really going on Friday night.. 7/8 16 points, looking very confident - lots of mid-range jumpers that looked great... next game, though.. he goes 2/9 and 4 pts.. by game three, didn't want to shoot and was just 1/2 for 2... today, 3/6 for 10 points.  I'm not sure what to think.  He's very good - can he be consistent?  I believe he's dealt with an injury recently.. not sure how much of a factor that may be still.

WI Swing is a very good group of traditionals.  Fischer & Koenig may both wind up having excellent collegiate careers.  Matt Thomas / WI Playmakers - another good one.  Great shooter, but more than that.

At the EYBL there was just a ton of talent.. Randle got a lot of props.. watching Aaron Gordon of the Oakland Soldiers.. yeesh.  6'7" stud.  NBA future.
--------

Buzz was at both EYBL & NY2LA.  Don't know if he made it to the other tourneys in town this weekend.  Saw Benford as well at EYBL.  Yesterday Buzz was in a white warmups.. all white, top & bottom.  Like 70s porn style.  If you know what I mean.

There were a number of other kids with MU interest that I saw a bit of... but my hand is cramping.  If you know what I mean.
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

Oh.. speaking of BeeJay, Anya is a load down low.  But, teammate Ishmail Wainright is on the wing.. that is a physical young man right there.. would be a good fit, but haven't heard much w/him and MU.  Josh Hart (MU involved in the past) also plays for Team Takeover.. not sure he's an answer for Marquette, but he really works hard on the court.  Probably would just be a role player for MU, but he could be a good player for a lot of teams.

Last year I watched '14 Justise Winslow in person a bit and saw him a little over this weekend.. he's playing with Houston Hoops (along with Texas A&M two-sport commit '13 Derrick Griffin.. who was w/Houston Defenders last year... man he is fun to watch.. 6'6", great build (nh), and stupid athletic)... I still think very, very highly of him. Makes it look easy.  Great size, athleticism... would like to see MU seriously pursue.  Switchable city.

Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

Appreciate the run down, Jay Bee.

Aaron Gordon, brother of UCLA/New Mexico Drew Gordon, is SCARY.

NBA bound, definitely if he keeps on improving his game. The kid snatches balls out of nowhere and throws them down hard. Long, athletic, dominant, runs from end to end...amazing talent from the Bay.
