Just a heads up that over the next couple weeks we have some server and domain maintenance to do which will likely knock MUScoop offline for a few hours (even up to 24 hours) on 2 separate occasions.  I'll update this thread with more specifics when I have them.  Stock up on painkillers to use during the downtime.

Maybe Chicos can have us all over for beers and Disney Land during the outage?

nathanziarek

Upgrading the software, too? Would love a better experience on my iPhone/iPad. If not, I'm totally getting started on my MUScoop App. (Note: I probably don't have the skills to make an app, so you're probably looking at 2015 at the earliest. By then, mobile will be a thing of the past, I'm sure.)

Such a kind man, a giving man

We live in a world that has servers and computers have to be maintained by men who write code. Who's gonna do it? You, Puerto Rican Nightmare? You, Hoopaloop? The Moderators have a greater responsibility than any of you could possibly fathom. You weep for Chicos Bail Bonds, and you curse his banning and  Backyard Summits. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what the Moderators know. That Server Maintenance, while tragic, probably saves on-line performance. And the existence of the Moderators, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, prevents 100 page threads from blossoming routinely. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that server, you need me on that server. The Moderators use words like Source Code, Defragmentation, and Back-Up. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent maintaining something. You use them as a punchline. We have neither the time nor the inclination to explain ourselves to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very access that we provide, and then questions the manner in which we provide it. We would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, we suggest you pick up a keyboard, and write some code. Either way, we don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

Nooooo!

/Thanks for taking the time and $$ to make this little corner of the interwebs exist.  Always enjoy the conversation and the passions, and it gives my wife something trivial to chide me about when I should be checking things off of the "honey do" list.

You're god damn right Rocky order the server maintenance!!!!
"A Plan? Oh man, I hate plans. That means were gonna have to do stuff. Can't we just have a strategy......or a mission statement."

Step 1 - Is completed and resulted in approximately zero downtime.

Step 2 - I need to kick-start now, but will likely have *some* downtime

Dr. Blackheart

Thanks guys...we DO APPRECIATE your hard work on off hours, goodwill, and hard earned scratch to keep this board alive.  And with putting up with the trash talking, all in good fun and cheer for MU hoops.  We DO APPRECIATE it!!!!!!

Yet, you are still all hairy wet cats!   ;D

Bringing this back since there WILL be some downtime in the next 48 hours!!

We're getting a shiny new server, upgrading from our current dual core, to a newer quad core.  Also getting new redundant RAID1 hard drives which should also have faster performance.  All good timing to handle the mass of users we'll get this year on MU's run to national championship  ;)

But, at some point in the next couple days, you'll lose access to the site, and then it will magically come back even better than before :)

Going from dual to quad core means we can handle twice the amount of Larry Williams threads.

In that case...Don't do it!

So I think all is back, and *mostly* well.  The new server is in place, and new name server entries are in place.  However, access may be slow for up to 24 hours until all name server routing is fixed.  *If* the site seems slow**, wait until Wednesday evening and restart your computer.

**Full tech disclosure, our host is automatically re-routing all the traffic from the old IP to the new one for those that haven't gotten the DNS update yet - however the re-routing is much slower than the new server.

All seems to be working fine...thought maybe we'd see a site redesign with all this ;)

Eh, baby steps, and the server transition took long enough, but everything seems to have settled in overnight (at least my page access is fast again).

Redesigns usually make things more busy or complicated than they need to be.  What I like about this forum is its ease of use, and the simple design... plus the colors aren't garish like a lot of other sites.

I also like that ... doesn't post here often.

edit: c'mon.

Come on....

rocky_warrior

Alright, the end is officially past.  Even with the time problems :)

We shouldn't have any more downtime in the near future, the server and registrant were successfully changed this off season, and now we can get back to basketball :)

Now, we may still do some software updates, but the hardware *should* be stable.
