Why does every other team have 15 guys on the bench, 3-4 of which are walk ons? Seems like we've had 11 schollies and 1 walkon for years,is it just coaches preference?

Anyone know?

GGGG

Yes.  We have had more than one walk-on previously and will supposedly have all 13 scholies filled next year.

Walk-ons are also favors done for friends (see Sichting).

Recently? Sichting, kuphal, frozena, singleton, thomas...
When I was in school crean held open tryouts for walkons with usually 1 spot open. Does buzz still do that?

I'm pretty sure they have to per NCAA rules. They haven't signed anyone from them recently, but they have been held.

Yes.  This year they had a tryout and did not take anyone.

You can add Mueller, Freund, Duffy, Duffy and Bryce to that list as well.

It is easier to get a walk on at a school like Wisconsin for two reasons. The first one is the student population is much higher. However, the biggest one would be an instate player is more likely to pay his way to go to Wisconsin than MU. There is a third reason I just thought of. A football player can walk on to the basketball team.
