Brad Stevens to Illinois? "Just heard he was offered 8 years. $21 million. from a very reliable source." #Illini http://www.illinoisloyalty.com/Forums/showthread.php?p=546839#post546839

Hmmmmm ... is that the coach the Bullseye Bros. were talking about?

Hoopaloop

Is Brad Stevens African American?

Does this put to rest the rumors here that he is taking over another Big Ten job any day now?   ;D

anybody see this comment in that thread?

I just would like to know what would happen if the same Shaka package was put in front of Buzz.

Hoopaloop

We have a flight from Indianapolis to University of Illinois so it has to be him.    :D

Not all fans would be happy apparently, ha.

Seriously, Brad Stevens? From Butler? I'm not impressed. Also, Illinois' AD, Mike Thomas, is inept. #illini #notshaka

AS FIRST REPORTED BY @hammerandnigel, Brad Stevens is leaving Butler for Illinois.

BRAD STEVENS RUMOR: Standing by our source who has always been rock solid in the past. We hope Stevens stays, but we trust the source.

What is the big deal about Illinois anyway.  Historically, their program matches up about even with Marquette championship-, elite 8-, sweet 16-wise, except our championship is more recent.  Ridiculous that I've heard Chicagoans claim they are a top 15 program.  Just dumb!

Although, it would seem Stevens needs to make a move sooner rather than later, I'd say he is better off waiting for Calipari to go to the NBA after this year's championship, or UConn or something.

Not sure they are wrong about that.  Take a look at the "Blue Blood" thread on here.  They are right around 15 in tourney appearances.

He will be a popular choice within the Chicago Public League

OK, let's be serious here.  UConn is hiring Kevin Ollie when Calhoun leaves.  Kentucky isn't hiring Brad Stevens.

Stevens is a midwestern guy.  The best midwestern programs aren't opening up anytime soon...Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue, etc.  This would be a very good move.  Illinois can be a very good program.

I hear ya and I don't think it would be a bad move.  But that way I hear Illini fans talking you'd think there are no better places in the country.  When they say top 15 their feeling like "how could you ever turn down Illinois?"  I just see better programs.  And there are a few programs I don't see on the Blue Bloods thread that I would think higher of than Illinois...such as Arizona, Michigan State, Georgetown...I even like Purdue.  Just to name a few.  Arizona is an example of a program that was made better more recently.  I might even prefer Oklahoma or Arkansas first.  Just sayin'

The Illinois job is good, but it's nothing like the jobs you mentioned. Not saying they cheat, but there's a lot of scumminess around Illinois HS basketball. Youve got to want to crawl arounf through the mud to get players. I just don't think Stevens is a fit there. If they hired him, I think it's more about making a splash by a new AD then hiring the right guy for the job. Stevens is not the right guy.

bilsu

Illinois is a good job, but not a great job. A great job is Kansas and that is why their coach jumped ship even though he was leaving a national contender at Illinois.

Exactly.  Maybe just me reacting to the way I've heard talk about them getting Buzz.  It's like, why would you leave MU for Illinois. I think MU is just as good of a job, if not better.

Chili

Illinois is the 5th best program in the B1G....MSU, IU, OSU and scUM are better. Then comes UofI.....it's a good job...on par with MU....
But I like to throw handfuls...

To the guys who matter Illinois isn't a better job than VCU, Alabama or Florida State.

According to Stevens, he hasn't even been contacted by Illinois.

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/campusrivalry/post/2012/03/butler-brad-stevens-illinois-contact/1

HE likely hasn't been.  That does not mean there has not been contact and things in the works.  He was much more vague on the "intermediaries" question.

If Illinois misses out on both Smart and Stevens, they will look worse than they did when they missed out on Kevin Sumlin as their football coach. With how publicly things have played out it seems like the Illinois job is looking less and less attractive by the moment as more people pass on it.

+1

If Stevens turns them down, this will start looking like the depaul debacle a few years ago.
