Doc's kid going to the association.  He would have been on Florida's team last night if not for him switching his commitment.  Like father, like son - leaving school early.

OK, don't really think he's ready, but good luck to him.

lab_warrior

Wonder if Coach K will scream at Doc that his son is "f***ing up his program", like he did with William Avery's mommy??

Goose

He all but said one and done when he went there. He is nice player and will have long NBA career. The kid was groomed to be NBA player so hardly surprising news.

texaswarrior74

His nickname has been "subzero"....don't think he's really NBA ready yet so he may become "scrubzero"...

One kid I'd love to see fall flat on his face....he's all about himself and always has been....

Austin is an incredibly talented player, but another year in school would do wonders for him. He's definitely a "me first" player and needs to learn how to play basketball. I don't think that the Duke faithful will be crushed to see him go. Seems like the type of player who would be fine putting up big scoring numbers on a perennial lottery team.

Duke should be happy to see him go.  Addition by subtraction.  Let him go make his millions by chucking up every shot he can.

Otule's Glass Eye

talented scorer, cocky and selfish kid

He definitely has created negative aura around him. His Dad was very respected as a person when he was at MU and seems like the son rubs people the wrong way. Never have met Austin but find it hard to believe he can be a bad kid with the parents he has. Who knows maybe he is someone who was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple.

Kid will be a top 5 pick. Bet the mortgage on that. Anyone who doesn't believe he knows what he's doin', with Doc's connections, is an idiot. Some assholes pretend they have NBA connections, others actually do.
Besides, the Association is all about potential and Austin certainly has that. Will be hugely successful.

Agreed 4ever. No doubt he is not high, high pick with long career. Would not even think about it if not assured of being lottery pick. Like him or not the kid has awfully bright future.

PuertoRicanNightmare

I think he's being projected as just outside the lottery, maybe even falling to Boston.

I have to say, both Rivers kids seem to have rubbed college fans the wrong way. Maybe a little bit entitled? They're kids, though. Count me as somebody who would steer clear of Austin in the draft. I just don't see what everybody else does.

I'll take that bet for sure. What kind of potential does a 6-4 combo guard who has below average NBA athleticism and can't shoot really have? He's a chucker who will get drafted somewhere between 10-20 based on his hype going into college and his last name.

Addition by subtraction.

Interesting you should use that phrase; I know one of Doc's MU teammates saying the exact same thing when Doc declared for the draft after his junior year.

Goose

Aside from off court distraction Doc Rivers was a great Warrior and teammate.

Purely a coincidence.  I don't got back far enough to have any knowledge of that  ;)

I went to school with Glenn Rivers, got to know him personally and still occasionally touch base with him. An absolute great guy who was popular with teammates and classmates. Maybe one or two guys didn't like him. Who among us can claim to be universally loved? Besides me, of course.

Met Doc in summer of '82 and immediately knew he was class. He was a great guy to have in the program and think today all of his old teammates we would say that. It Jr. Year was rocky as hell but does not take away from overall package.

His initials wouldn't be Marc Marotta, would they?

Just to clarify, I have nothing but good things to say about Doc Rivers -- then and now.  I thought he was a good guy and was (and continues to be) a strong representative of the University.
