MU Fan in Connecticut

I know people around Conn. were pretty upset when they relocated an Air National Guard squad of Warthogs out of Bradley International Airport (Hartford's airport) 4-5 years ago.  They had been stationed there since the jet has been in existence.

I noticed in the other thread that you flew many different types of planes.  So why the Warthog?  What makes that you favorite (assuming that is why you picked it for your handle)?

(for the record, I know what a warthog is and pretty much nothing else about planes ... other than they tell me to put my selt-belt on when turbulence hits).

Broken service. Flew F-16s then got out and went to an Ivy B School. Worked in corporate strategy for PepsiCo & GE Cap around Asia (Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Jakarta.) Went back in right after 9/11. USAF made me transition to the Hawg as part of the deal since there was no terminal air threat and therefore little need for A2A shooters. Never looked back. Great airframe and CAS mission is the tits. Got command of a squadron which was the best job in the world. 6 combat deployments - 2 OIF 4 OEF. Retired last year as a Colonel. Miss the crew dawgs and the good times. Doing Corp Strat work for T-Mobile these days. Great gig but not as much fun as air2mud.

Lots of cuts in end strength and due to BRAC. I think USAF/AFRES/ANG are cutting 5 or six warthog squadrons. Problem for the Hawg is that it does one thing better than anything else - CAS (close air support) and is in no way a dog fighter. USAF wants multi-role airframes and is thinking the F 35 will do. Problem is that the JSF is not an air2mud platform. The guys wearing stars should listen to the Army and USMC ground pounders and get their opinion; a warthog pilot cannot pay for a beer near and army post or marine corps base for a reason. Better yet, ask the Taliban what airframe makes them soil their diapers. It sure ain't a Strike Eagle.

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Just wonderin'.........................

There has been an outbreak of Warthog Haiku, then I read the following news -

National Poetry Month
Anyone who knows or has read about Marquette University President Scott R. Pilarz, S.J., may be aware that he loves poetry. During National Poetry Month through April, Father Pilarz encourages members of the Marquette community to learn about the art of poetry. Learn more and read one of his favorite poems.

So, logic tells me that

Warthog IS Father Pilarz.

Discuss.

Outed! I was certain my cover was blown when, sitting on Chicos lanai over a few cold ones, I related to The Bail Bondsman how I was not comfortable with Buzz Williams, the man. Maybe it was one too many frosties in the morning (I was going to Disneyland that afternoon) but I also revealed my plan for aligning MU basketball with that of Creighton and SLU.
