Hello ("fellow") Marquette fans,

The UConn message board, after watching their team ignominiously lose in the first round and subsequently nearly blowing themselves up, decided that we needed to pick a team to collectively cheer for.  Due to your team's ability, enjoyable style of play, and likable players, Marquette won our poll.

For the rest of this tournament you are now honorary Huskies (or, if it is perhaps fits better, we would like to be honorary Golden Eagles).  We have faith that "our" Golden Eagles has what it takes to cut down the nets.

"We" have a great draw going forward--Mizzou might have been tough, but Florida is a bunch of no-defense chuckers.  I'm feeling confident in "our" team's next game.

Thanks and welcome.   Hopefully today everybody is sober enough to not turn this into another trash UConn thread.   What is the vibe there about Calhoun returning?   Or Drummond and Lamb, for that matter?
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

Welcome aboard.  Just substitute "Warrior" for that sentence, and you'll fit in just fine.

Oh, and wear a gold t-shirt to Phoenix, ok?

Thanks and if you read posts from Bencat12 and Mutaman, please ignore.

we are all "Warriors" today (although I have to admit I voted for us to adopt USF)

BOL in the tourny, make the conference proud

Jimmy is coming back. He's a proud man and extremly loyal. He will never leave after a bad season, he'll never leave with that APR cloud hanging over us, he won't leave until his baby is on solid ground and his hand picked successor is ready to take over. The national media is just clueless on the subject. Like most issues, they're just shooting from the hip.

I think AD returns. He has said as much each and every time he's been asked the question. He's 18, and I think he knows he needs the work. He didn't even work out with the team last summer, since he committed one week before classes. Like all of Jimmy's kids, he'll grow up a lot this summer.

I think JL's stock dropped, but people still say he's a lottery pick. If that true, I think he leaves. He was thinking about leaving last year.

Thanks and welcome aboard!  Yesterday I personally witnessed what 15,000 screaming UK fans could do to support Murray State.  We welcome all our Big East brothers (excluding West Virginia) to the Warrior party.  And just so you know, last year down the stretch, we were Kemba fans too.  Enjoy the ride.

If you guys really want to get serious, there will certainly be game watching parties at watering holes out in your area.  This link should help.  http://www.marquette.edu/alumni/mubb/

+1 (+2 for the WV comment).

This will be fun, welcome aboard guys :)

Maybe we can get one of our better writers to swing by your forums and give you a quick Marquette NewFan Primer?  Any volunteers to head over to The Boneyard?

Thank you very much for the support, but unfortunately we can't afford to be cocky (as fans I know it doesn't matter, but given it's possible the players read this board, we should probably respect our next opponent's ability).

Very nice words. MU is a team that can be enjoyed. Always glad when people join the fandom.

Favorite call in a UConn game ever (aside from Sean McDonough's call at the end of the 1998 UConn-Washington game when Hamilton hit the buzzer-beater):

Hide yo' kids, hide yo' wife, cuz Darius Johnson-Odom dunkin' on everybody.

Great, funny call by a pretty bad announcer last year.  Also a sick dunk by DJO.

Coleman

Welcome Huskies. Us basketball brothers in the Big East gotta stick together. The future of our programs and the conference are closely intertwined.

Coleman

Also. I love Calhoun as a coach. I have ever since that press conference when a reporter tried to call him out on his salary.

96warrior

Loving the support, thank you! I am not sure I would be able to watch hoops, let alone support a regular season opponent, if MU was out of the tourney so this to me is really gracious and huge of you guys. Thank you! GO MARQUETTE!

You can do both. I'm rooting for USF unless we have to play them  :)

Agreed.  Really happy for USF.  Took some slack for the out of conference play, but they proved in the Big East that they belonged.

If people want to chip in things not to forget, I'd be happy to swing over...I'm already a member of about 27,000 other forums, why not one more?

What to remember...

  • Obviously Al and 1977
  • Ring Out Ahoya (even if no one exactly knows what it means)
  • Wade and 2003
  • Why we hate/appreciate/resent Tom Crean
  • Favorite Buzzisms
.
So what else do I need to include?

That we have beaten them each of their last 3 times on their home court.  I mean...  ;)

Run down of the current team (and coach) and their backgrounds.  Relaying the human interest portion of our player's stories will creates a lot of depth when watching Marquette compared to other teams.  I'm pretty sure UCONN fans participating at the Boneyard would be interested in this sort of thing, because they probably know the whole "DJO and Crowder are good at basketball" thing that TV announcers stick to.

Like Jae Crowder being an unrecruited, pudgy PG out of High School

Cadougan being a little heavy and having his brother get shot while living up in Canada.  Additionally, toughing himself through an incredibly quick achilles injury recovery.

Todd Mayo's surprisingly quiet recruitment, and trying to get out from under his brother's shadow

Buzz Williams stealing a highly recruited DJO from junior college because Buzz had a better pulse on when DJO would be cleared to play in the NCAA, which was a year earlier than everyone else thought.

Vander Blue decommitting from in-state rival UW-Madison so that he could come play in the Big East with Marquette

Jamil Wilson's transfer from Oregon to come back home and play in Milwaukee with Marquette

And of course, our own Buzz Willams' propensity for putting the dance into the big dance.

If anyone can think of anything else, feel free to add.

Hey tzznandrew, is it possible for new members to post a new thread at The Boneyard? I registered and have membership now, but don't see that option. Or would you need me to write something up and forward it on? I can do either.
