The YUM! towel crew was working over time...the condition of the NCAA floor was a joke today.  Do they store them in a warehouse all year and then take them out of storage and not allow the wood to settle?  Was it the Soviet Union vs. USA in Olympic basketball again with two playovers on BYU turnovers?  Honestly, I have never seen a playover ever called in college basketball.  Both teams play under the same conditions.  How can you justify the reversal of two The officiating crew screwed up a lot today with two  very different styles of play.

Stud of the game should be that towel guy.  He worked his ass off.

No stud when we lose. The towel guy clearly lost despite a beastly effort. There was just no keeping up with the slick floors.

I've seen some slipping on other courts, but haven't been able to watch as closely as I did for the MU game. Is slipping a problem on all of the courts?

Not that I've seen. It's kind of nice there aren't any big sponsor logos out there. I guess the NCAA is making enough dough they don't need any.

The only towel guys who work harder are at St Louis U.

Did you see Ken Pomeroy's article on fat Rick?  Says he should be coach of the year.

If they use one of Maherus' crap towel to wipe the floor, we would need analysis

Yeah! I miss the days when they played on the sponsored school's court. I guess they are afraid of having some politically incorrect logo or mascot on the court.

I thought North Dakota was the only remaining holdout?

jaybilaswho?

I will try to find the article that I read a few years back (or a more recent story), but i believe the courts are new every year. Once the regions games are over, the court is then donated to a local gym/school/boys and girls club/something.

I do think that there is nothing better than watching NCAA games with the uniform tournament logo and color scheme.

I didn't notice that much trouble with the other games in Louisville yesterday, but of course I wasn't watching them as closely.  Seemed like it was only a problem in our game.  Can anyone else confirm or refute?

If it comes down to a boring court, or one with NCAA decals on it for guys to slip on, give me the boring court.

I much prefer the courts reflect the teams that usually play upon them.   NCAA sanitized courts are terrible.

They talked about it during the UCONN game.  The floor wasn't a problem in the morning, had big problems when we were playing and then wasn't an issue again for the UCONN v Iowa St game.

Maybe the MU v BYU game just had players that were working harder and sweating more?  More scrapping during our game so the guys were on the floor more often?

It's most likely that the YUM center had to turn up the air conditioning to get the humidity out of the air.  I'm sure the mouth-breathing Kentucky fans really warmed that place up during the day causing the moisture in the air to condense on the cool floor.

courts/game balls are standardized for a reason, it make sense competively and from a branding standpoint on the NCAA's part.

as far as the court in the yum center, it didnt seem to be a problem in the night games? either they changed something, or BYU/MU are really sweaty...

No doubt, it makes sense from an NCAA branding perspective.  From a consumer perspective, not so much.  Like we care about the NCAA's brand and image, trumping the brand of the teams who are playing/hosting.

Yeah, but they get hazard pay.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

It got worse...MSU vs. CSU had towel activity, but it went from a crew of 2 to 8-10 for MU vs. BYU.  I think the Haad Toweller had to call home for his kids to come help.  There was nothing fair about the conditions.

All joking aside though, I have NEVER seen two turnovers in live play reversed and played over.  As I said, both teams play under the same conditions, and if a ref puts a ball in play, then a turnover cannot be reversed.  Happened twice and called by the same ref.  Perhaps practically correct call, but not technically.  Just odd

ken8406

the weird part is that the conditions got better for the later game and this was not one of the hockey/basketball arenas.

Not really weird.  They got through the hottest part of the day which is when there was condensation on the floor.

On a different note, at the YUM Center yesterday during timeouts, they showed "Top 5 NCAA Tournament Leaders", and one of them was all time NCAA tourney scoring leader, and it's Laettner, and they probably showed in 5 times during the 2 games yesterday, and each time the Kentucky faithful booed. It was 20 years ago folks, get over it already.

I understand.  I still boo Peter Pavia, and I think he's dead.
