Thanks to the 2011-2012 team for a wonderful season.  Especially to DJO and Jae who had an awesome senior year and received the appropriate awards for their performance.

Who would have believed at the beginning of the year that this team would be in the Top Ten, go 14-4 in BE play and receive a #3 seed.  Especially after losing their starting center to a season ending injury and their backup missing almost half the year.  Made for one of the most exciting seasons in a long time.

Play your heart out boyz......... Lets do this........

GGGG

Well, it's been a fun year and all, but if this team doesn't make the S16, I will be left with a sense of unfinished business - like the Amigos senior year.

Amen. I will be disappointed if they lose today but this team gave us everything it had.

I feel the same way. Perhaps even more so this year since the injuries suffered haven't been to a first line player like it was with DJ.

I had come to terms with the deflated end for the Amigos but I'm still expecting great things to finish this season.

Agreed -- but will this be a greater or lesser sense given that our starting PG is healthy this year.  [as I nearly punch my wooden desk]

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I feel if we want to consider MU as a destination and not as a stepping stone we have to make annual appearances to the sweet 16 at least. To me personally it sucks that the whole season rides on these two games on if the season was successful or not. We have to preform when the stage has never been bigger and when the lights are at it's brightest.

I'm hoping that this is the time we separate ourselves and Marquette will show America we we are a top 10 school for the next few years!

Gotta win today.  Got to.

And Saturday....with the talent on this team, there is no EXCUSE, none whatsoever to not make the Sweet 16, minimum. I think Elite 8 is also very doable, and FF is not out of the question. Minimum Sweet 16 however or the season was a disappointment.

Very, very, very few teams make annual appearances in the Sweet 16 at least. MU isn't one of them, and almost certainly never will be.

People really need to appreciate and understand how lucky (and rare) MU is as a small private school in the Midwest to have a program as good as this one.

Lose today and the entire season is a disaster.  Unfair, but true.

Just to be mentioned as serious candidates for Sweet 16,Elite 8 and FF is an achievment to be proud of.
No one will be surprised if they accomplish any of the above

Sorry, but a #3 seed in the NCAA tournament that doesn't reach the sweet 16 is a failure.  I would be willing to bet that the guys on the team would tell you the same thing.

We are past the point where talking heads on ESPN saying that we have a good chance to win 2 games in the NCAA tournament is an achievement.  Maybe 10 years ago, but not now.

Saying that losing a game in which we're a 5.5 or 6 point favorite can turn our 2nd best season in 30+ years into a "disaster" isn't just wrong, it's over the top wrong.

esotericmindguy

It's a cute story. But if you get bounced in the first round it's a failure. If you consider yourself a top 20 program then 2-6 seeds should be expected.

Yet losing in the Final Four to some people here is still considered a disaster.  Our fanbase never ceases to amaze me.

This has been a fantastic season.  Last year, in my mind, the season was mediocre with a terrific post season.  If we lose today or on Saturday, it will still be a fantastic season but unfortunately we will feel we didn't achieve what we were capable of based on the seeding and the matchups we have.  Not often does this program get a top 4 seed.  In 2003 we took advantage of it and exceeded our seeding.  The draw is great, we have good matchups. In 1996 we had a 4 seed but didn't get to Sweet 16 despite playing a 12 seed in round two.  Incredibly disappointing that year.

Let's take advantage of our draw, we have senior leadership, a great coach and get to the Sweet 16.  After that, let the chips fall where they may.

Just like last year's crappy regular season was washed away with a S16 run, this year's outstanding season /could/ be washed away with a first game loss.

Gotta win today, which I think we will do handily.

West Virginia was the most fun I've had watching MU since, at least, the 2003 Kentucky NCAA game.  The Wisconsin game was really exciting too.  That's how I measure seasons.  Now if they'd somehow managed to beat ND......
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Dead on about the S16 last year.  It's amazing how that erased such a frustrating and disappointing regular season.

Must win both today and Thursday to make season close to complete. Last year they improved on regular season with strong showing and MUST do so again this year. I would be very disappointed with anything short of Elite 8.

Are we playing a double header today?  Our guys are going to get tired

I'd say you're setting yourself up for some disappointment.

Murs I also loved the West Virginia game big time. It was my favorite game since the 2003 run as well. That game was old school and you could just sense the Warriors were going to win that game.

Certainly the last game of the 2003 season was a disaster, and an unmitigated one at that. But that SEASON was glorious, the most glorious MU has had in decades. This year's season has been 2nd to 2003 in the last 30+ years. Anyone who calls an entire season a disaster based on a single game, then or now, is just wrong.

Lazer I have been disappointed almost every year since 1977 and know when I team is capable of being special. We have been called FF sleeper or contender by many pundits over last month or so and have to live up to that. Not often are we a 3 seed or discussed as FF sleeper and that has to be where bar is set. Next year another story and last year the surpassed the bar set for them.
