was really highly recruited 4 who decided to go to Illinois.  It is hard to believe that Bruce Weber and Buzz were so wrong on a kid.  Barely got off the bench this year, did he make a mistake going to ILL. or did Weber not use him right.  What do you think of Steve Taylor vs.  Mike Shaw?  Did anybody see both these kids in high school?  Also, the 4 kids that went to ILL.
Abrams, Henry, Shaw and the center all did not get much playing time.  All ranked high or where they really over ranked in the ratings? Bruce Weber is from Milwaukee, went to Marshall, how about making a change at UWM?

I wouldn't read too much into a freshman not playing much. I also wouldn't be surprised to see some of that heralded UI recruiting class transferring. Shaw could still come out fine.

If Shaw transfers out of IL what recruiting class does that put him in? Would we ever see him here? I know we have very few scollies left the next few years.

The only way Shaw would be able to come here as a transfer would be to pull another Newbill on one of the incoming  guys, just like we did with Jamil. Frankly, I don't think he's worth it.

Shaw would have to sit out a year then would be eligible to play as a sophomore in 2013-14. However, any school taking him would need a scholarship for 2012-13 and 2013-14 unless he was willing to walk on (99.9999999999% that doesn't happen).

Maybe he qualifies for an academic scholarship?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the NCAA disallows football and basketball recruits from receiving full academic rides. This would be a pretty blatant way to get around the scholarship limit.

Correct.  Some of the nonrevenue sports can give academic scholarships, but they need to comply with the Universities scholarship policies.  Meaning, they would still need to qualify for the academic scholarship compared to the other applicants.

Have any of you cats ever seen him play lacrosse?

I saw him play vs his teammate Nnanna Eqwu and Egwu took him to work. He held him to 7pts. and a few boards. At the time Shaw was significantly ranked higher than Egwu so it was a bit of a surprise.

I commented on this on the Bruce thread, but again, I follow both programs very closely. Shaw is thought of as a leader of the freshman (along with Abrams), despite not playing much this year.  Weber plays a heavy guard offense, with the 4 typically manned by Tyler Griffey. I was hoping to see Shaw get in more this year with Griffey's struggles, but Bertrand exploded and Bruce started using a 4 guard plus Leonard lineup with Richardson, Abrams, Paul, and Bertrand.

The comments about all 4 not playing much are rather unfounded, in my opinion.  Abrams played nice minutes for a freshman to start the year, then became the starter when Maniscalco was injured.  Most people really liked what they saw from Abrams as a freshman and are loving the potential growth as he learns to be a true point guard. Both he and Egwu (who also played decent time for a freshman behind a stud center) have starting roles on their plate next season. I don't see them going anywhere soon.

Henry and Shaw - it's a little harder to get a read on, but this group coming in was very close and tight-knit. Paul, Richardson, and Griffey will be seniors, so if Shaw and Henry continue to work hard, their tables will be set soon as well. Plus, as indicated by posters above, where does MU fit a potential transfer?

I really like what I saw from Egwu this year.  That dude's motor is off the charts.

If Jerrance stays on staff at Illinois and they bring in Shaka or Grant, my guess is most of the players stick around (other than Leonard jumping to the league).

What happened to 84?

About a month ago I looked at Illinois roster to see, if Shaw was playing. What surprised me most is that he was listed as only 6'6". We need bigger guys than him.

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.
