Tonight just reminds me of this...

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Eighth-ranked Marquette is out of the Conference USA tournament thanks to its most error-plagued performance of the season.

----

"It was just a matter of us not being strong with the ball,'' said Marquette point guard Travis Diener, who led his team with 19 points. "I don't know how many teams are going to win with 30 turnovers. That's way too high. We've got to fix that, and fix it quick.''

Marquette defeated UAB 98-87 just 12 days ago, overcoming 21 turnovers by holding the Blazers to 39 percent shooting.

----

The Golden Eagles were lucky to trail only 40-36 at halftime after committing 15 turnovers in the first half. Marquette had fewer than 15 turnovers in 20 games this season.

wait - you mean every team to make a deep run in the tournament doesnt always have a UConn-esque run through their conference tournament?

to the UAB Blazers.
And that worked out pretty well for us.

Even though this Louisville team isn't a great one, I feel like the name still carries weight, and it won't be seen as bad a loss as the UAB loss (in which, if I remember correctly, we got run off the court - in Louisville)

As I posted on another thread...

At least it wasn't a 30 TO performance in the conference tourney like the one put together by this horsesh!t team from almost a decade ago.

You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

Yes, but that team had Wade, Jackson, Diener and Novak. This year's team had Crowder and DJO and then there's a huge drop-off in scoring ability...

That team also came darn close to losing to Holy Cross in the first round. You never know what can happen

Thanks! I needed this.

After a frustrating loss, I just want to punch Niv Berkowitz in the face.  You need to change your pic.  His face makes me think of that scene at the Catalina Wine Mixer from Step Brothers.

Niv kind of looks like a young Andy Sandburg.

Sorry...went a bit off topic.

Great point Rocky on the UAB game.  I went to that game with my dad and uncle, and had tix purchased for all the weekend games.  Feeling for those in NYC.

Except for Hinrich and that lefty (Langford?). At least on that Saturday in March 2003 when they owned us.

I was at Freedom Hall for that game.  I will never forget the heckling I endured from some Memphis fans that were sitting in the section next to us.  It was nothing clever or funny, but very angry and quite personal.  The few UL fans that were there weren't kind either as we walked out.

I think we got the last laugh though.

I don't know if anyone else that was there remembers this but one of the particularly bad memories of the tournament was the free samples of some awful nautica cologne that they handed out for some inexplicable reason.

Many of the poorly washed and lightly toothed from the greater Louisville area were obviously intrigued by the concept of cologne and they emptied the entire sample on themselves making the entire arena smell like a disgusting blend of cheap cologne/cigarette smoke/chewing tobacco/popcorn.

That is quite an image, er, smell you just gave to us all.  Ick.   :)

Makes you wonder what next year will be like?

That's why you enjoy the moment.  Enjoy each game the remainder of the year.  Next years journey will be another to enjoy, but for different reasons.

I Let's hope so.  Quiet flight back.  Get focused and hope for a good draw.  know if anyone else that was there remembers this but one of the particularly bad memories of the tournament was the free samples of some awful nautica cologne that they handed out for some inexplicable reason.

Duuuuuude.  Totally remember that (why do I remember that?!?).

That's weird. Nautica usually puts out a great cologne.
