Getting ready for the B12.

I am not a huge fan of UConn or Calhoun but I am glad they advance.  I hope they beat cuse tomorrow.

Jones did not make a basket in overtime.  The entire team went 0 for 11 from the field in OT.  Player of the year, my @$$.

West Virginia has a good basketball team and will get in the tourney. Huggins is a great coach and had a young team with a couple veterans. They played a tough team.

UCONN looks like it finally woke up. It took them a while, but if Boatright continues to drive and Napier does what he does, watch out for this team.

Jones had a great game.  Lousy overtime, but don't blame the loss on him.

WVU is 37th on the S-Curve, meaning about 30 teams need to jump over them before WVU is in the NIT.

Not going to happen.  WVU is in the dance.

Not really....you're not counting any of the auto-qualifiers.

But WVU is easily in the field. It's not even close.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Is it just me or does UCONN a completely different team when Calhoun is actually on the sidelines.

It's amazing to witness how a coach can make that much of a difference.

This has always intrigued me too, since Blaney is not exactly the clueless, hapless assistant that we've (and other BE teams COUGH Providence COUGH) made him out to be.  He's had decent head coaching gigs at Holy Cross and Seton Hall.  And they beat Texas when they were ranked #1.  Can't figure out why they do better with Calhoun.  My guess is maybe they fear him more?

which is why I used the word "about" 30.    Fine, fine, closer to 20.

UConn seems 10 ppg better with Calhoun on the bench.    No idea why.

We shouldn't blame the loss on him, but it was a perfect example of how Jae is even better.

Jones' 25/10 looks awesome as always, and prior to 1980 when they didn't keep stats for steals or blocked shots, that might be end of story.

But Jones had 0 assists, 0 steals and 0 blocks.  Jae never does that.  In 23 games against BCS teams this year, Jae gave us some combination of between 3 and 11 assists/steals/blocks in every game.

On shooting, a very typical night for Jones - 10 of 21 including 1 made three pointer, so it took him 21 field goal attempts to get 21 points on those field goals (or a 50% eFG).  Crowder shot better than that on 16 of our 23 games against a BCS team, so that would have definitely been a very off night shooting for Crowder but it was really almost exactly average for KJ.

He is the greatest offensive rebounder around and a great player, but you saw how once Drummond clamped down on the inside game KJ was a non-factor.  When Drummond tried to clamp down on Crowder, Crowder dunked on him and hit a trey both while being fouled, and did everything in between.

Not be beat a dead horse, but Crowder was just a better all-around player that offsets the "how can you deny the guy with the most points and most rebounds the award?" argument.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

Not sure if this is true or not, but I think I heard the commentators say after the game that Jones did not score a field goal in the last 16 minutes of regulation and then add on the 5 extra minutes of overtime.  In an elimination game where you could "lock up" your NCAA bid, that is what your "real" POY does?  I don't think so.

I agree Jae is better and if I was voting I'd have voted for Jae.  I was just pointing out that Jones played very well in the loss and I wouldn't use a game where he went for 25 and 10 to say he wasn't POY material.

According to the play by play at ESPN, this is not true.  Last field goal was with 8:35 remaining.  Last free throw was with 6:17 remaining.

He had a double-double.  Nice game.  I don't think he was robbed, but he is a hell of a player.  Happy to see WVU lose, but glad to see Jones play well.

And I hope that Jae goes out tomorrow and gets a triple double.

I think it's more like a handful of teams need to jump them because of the autobids.  Doesn't the S-Curve begin the smaller conferences around 44 or 45?  Still, seems WVU is in.

Probably closer to 10, but that's irrelevant... your point remains: WVU is safely in at this point.  Every conference championship from here on out would have to generate an extra bid for the conference for WVU to be in any danger.

The bubble is soft.  And WVU leads in every statistical bubble category.

According to the "Joey Brackets rule" they are out.  The Joey Brackets rule is that if you are below .500 in conference including your conference tourney you don't deserve a bid.

I am not sure any on the committee observe the rule but I am just sayin'.

brewcity77

There are 68 total bids, 31 are automatic. That includes pretty much everyone from 16 to 13, or 18 teams. At 37, that would put WVU as the first 10 seed. If you figure 2 other auto bids mixed in between 10-12, that leaves about 10-12 teams between them and the cut.

My guess is WVU is still in and might have dropped a few spots, but they should still be on tr 10-11 line.

They'll make it as an #11 or so seed.  And then one and done next Thursday or Friday.  Don't let the door hit you in the @ss.

Screw that, I want WVU to go to the FF from a different region than Marquette.  THEN, let the door hit them and the Big East will collect their 2012 tournament shares for the next six years.

It's the gift from WVU (and Syracuse, go to hell, Pitt) that keeps on giving.... to the Big East.... for six years.  We should send them thank you cards every year, just to remind them.
