The best chant yesterday was when you could hear the students yell Warriors!!!!

More than a few of those started out as "F the Hoyas" chants from the upper deck and turned into "let's go warriors" by the time the lower bowl joined in.

Yes, best chant of the night.

Note to students:  F the Hoyas chant was a terrible, classless chant.  I guarantee you, 90% of the non-students all were thinking the same thing: Please stop, you are embarrassing Marquette and yourselves. -- Oh, and in 10 years, you'll be thinking the same thing.

Agreed. When I heard it I thought it was kinda classless, but then my brain just translated it to "F the lawyers" and suddenly I was okay with it.

That was awesome.  Great job by the students in bringing some serious energy.

Now if someone could post a video of those girls in sports bras and body paint that would be fantastic.

The upper section seemed to start it and (like said earlier), the lower bowl was having none of it.  Now if it was F the Irish or F Digger then maybe....

Agree, no need for that.  If it's F the Badgers that's cool though.  But that's the only one.

I know a lot of people (myself included) have been bummed at the lack of students at some of the games this season, but I thought the crowd was awesome yesterday. One question.... at the start of the game, the students were jumping and chanting and from where my wife and friends sit (opposite side), it looked awesome... anyone know what exactly they were chanting (was so loud we couldn't really make it out)

On to NYC. Fire Up Marquette!

It's something Utah State students started.  "I believe that we will win."

Here's the Utah State original, although they do it during warm-ups:

Agree with all of this.  Great energy shown by the students.  I would never have thought they'd pull it off.  Great job.

Oh, and F the Badgers and the Irish.

Was at the game and was surprised but thoroughly enjoyed the several "WARRIORS-WARRIORS-thump, thump, thump-thump-thump" cheers that were initiated at points during the game.

For sure on those occasions, both upper and lower bowls, students, alumni and other attendees participated.  Yeah, the students brought the energy, but on Saturday they had a lot of accomplices in their energy based on the cheers that were being chanted.  What a great bridge between students and alums.  It should be a regular chant at all BC games going forward.  18,000 bellowing that cheer can intimidate opponents.  Have seen it happen (albeit in in 11,000 capacity MECCA).  Sorry, but for those who think otherwise, that is never going away.

Simply put, "GOLDEN EAGLES-GOLDEN EAGLES" just doesn't roll off the tongue and fit that pulsating cheer like the original, 50+ years (since 1954)  after it was first heard at Marquette games.  I guess that is why we don't hear it.

That was legendary. But I thought the "hey,.....you suck" cheer was better.

Why? It makes it seem that we can't beat a team that doesn't suck. Kind of like "over rated"

. Are you sure it wasn't "let's
Go Warriors"?    Still sounds light years better than "let's go Golden Eagles"

the you suck chant was not directed towards g'town.  The first part of it was directed towards a person in a suit on their bench, where when they hit a 3 in the first half he stood up, turned right to us and put up the 3 goggles.  The second half of the "you suck" chant was directed at Pat Driscoll (the referee)

ChitownSpaceForRent

We were not saying F the Hoyas. It sounded really similar because I too though that thats what people were saying but it wasnt. It started with a B or something but I couldnt completely make it out. But definitely not F the Hoyas.

+1.....the same group also was also doing the "automatic " bs when DG was shooting FTs.  That really needs to stop.

The only negative in an otherwise awesome showing by the students!!!

No Lighthouse--I'm not sure...Either way (and it may have been that both were used) I was keyed into the "Warriors" part.  My surprise was that I thought any reference to the proud tradition was taboo in this sensitive to all--and submissive to many--era.

And I don't think that I would be alone in suggesting that some Warriors reference, using either cheer, would be embraced in future home games.

And I'm not saying that our old name should come back (though I among many would be delighted).  I'm just saying that it is never going away.  Let's recognize and embrace that--together.

Upper deck started it. I was right next to the student section. I didn't like it but oh well.

By the way, I was next to a big group of G Town fans. They were really super A Holes. They would get into random people's faces and talk crazy trash. I thought OSU fans are the worst, but now they have competition.

Glad someone caught this on video, pretty impressive. Hopefully next year the students can build on this and come up more chants.

Kudos to the students. Well organized and well executed. Hopefully MU can start some sort of tradition like this but with an original chant.
