TJ Taylor stats and eligibility

Would TJ Taylor come in to MU as a Sophomore or Junior?

Also, I checked out his stats and how his JC play compares to other JC players Buzz has brought in (their last year in JC):

Taylor: 22 games, 113/240 FGs (.471), 42/120 3Ps (.350), 44/64 FTs (.688), 312 points, 14.2 avg (season not complete)
DJO: 32 games, 216/451 FGs (.479), 69/178 3Ps (.388), 191/248 FTs (.770), 692 points, 21.6 avg
Crowder: 33 games, 215/465 FGs (.462), 54/149 3Ps (.362), 140/185 FTs (.757), 624 points, 18.9 avg

I think I'd be happy if he could average around 10-12 ppg next year as he acclimates himself to D1 basketball.

Cool. SO the semester he was enrolled at Oklahoma doesn't count toward his eligibility? Did he ever see the court for OU? I guess not if he can still be classified as a sophomore when he arrives at MU.

Glad he'll be around for 3 years. Would love for him to develop under Buzz like Butler and DJO did in their 3 years.

Nope, he never suited up for them. From what I understand, he will, however, have to complete his eligibility in 3 years (so no additional redshirt years) because the clock started ticking to complete 4 years of eligibility in 5 calendar years when he got to OU.

Shouldn't be a problem, however, I think Taylor will be getting meaningful minutes from day one.

Better playing real games your redshirt year than practicing with the team here.

IIRC, If he came here right away he'd have to complete the full year of sitting out due to transfer rules so he would have been eligible after the first semester.  And since he used his redshirt year sitting out at Oklahoma last year, he would not have been eligible for a redshirt here, so whether he managed to earn minutes this year or not he was going to be a sophomore next year.  Aside from last game, not sure where we really got in a pinch this year where he would have been needed.  Probably better for him to get regular minutes playing every game than being near the end of the bench.

I didn't realize that Taylor was a mid-year transfer until reading your post chapman, but isn't the only way he could have been eligible the second half of this year was if he enrolled at MU in January 2011?  He didn't decide to come here until May, so essentially his choices were to play at Paris, or sit all year here.  Am I right about this?

Would like to see better shooting numbers, but looking at highlights of him - he will certainly have a Big East ready body.

Is he a legitimate 6'4" and 215 lbs.?I see he was ranked in the top 50 coming out of Texas in 2010.

One thing when you look at his numbers -- he is still working in the top game shape after a serious setback at OU.  TJ's numbers in high school should tell you more than his number at Paris CC.  FYI, he will be a tough match up for smaller guard and he can play the 1 through 3 positions.  Marquette will be able to put some big guards out there next season.

Are there any highlights out there of him from this year? The only ones I can seem to find are from his SR year of HS, which at this point was quite awhile ago.

I see both Vander and Taylor playing the point in 2 years as Dwilson will really have to improve by then to start at the point.  Obviously, the recruitment on Kendrick Nunn has to come into play as he seems to be an MU lean, so somebody has to go unfortunately.  I never like to see this but they are 1 year scholarships instead of 4 so Buzz can advise somebody after next year that it is not working out here.  Oh well, times have change and to me not to the better.  Secondly, did this blog show up OK on your blog?

Getting back to T.J. Taylor.  I think him having spent a semester at Oklahoma will give him an advantage other junior college transfers usually don't have and although his production scoring wise doesn't match some other recent JUCO transfers at Marquette, he's helped Paris to the top position in their conference and they are doing it while losing their big guy recently, a Seton Hall signee, to a season suspension for having been thrown out of two games.  T.J. seems to contribute with assists, rebounds and steals and he'll help MU next year.

I believe that he spent only the first semester at Oklahoma, the second semester at Paris CC, but did not play.

I don't know for certain, but it seems to me that TJ could have played second semester for MU this year since he would have been transferring from a JUCO he had attended for an entire year.  That would be consistent with Jarnell Stokes enrolling at Tennessee for the second semester and being eligible.  However, I bet TJ would have burned his second year of eligibility if he did so.

See, after thinking about this, I don't think Taylor could have played here at all this year.  I mean when Maymon and Smith transferred from MU, there was this rush to get them enrolled in January.  I doubt they could have sat at home for the spring semester, enrolled in the fall, and then began playing  the next spring.
