Rumor going around Twitter and some message boards that Boise and San Diego are looking to back out due to the TV money not being there, or something like that.

Is this the behind the scenes reason why Memphis and Temple have suddenly been added quickly in the past few weeks?

It would be great if SMU and Houston suddenly decided to back out for the same reason...

I assume they would have to pay the Big East exit fee like TCU.

who cares we dont need 2 west coast teams.  the texas schools are ok by me.  We can find two football schools if need be east of the mississippi

UL, UCONN, Rutgers care. This has implosion written all over it.

Guessing the BE needs Boise for that BCS status.  If they think they can still keep BCS status, just add Army for football only and no big deal.

Read the tweets.  This is a reporter making a story.  No evidence that BSU is considering this whatsoever.

I don't think they ever actually signed the dotted line, at least that's how SDSU and Boise fans are talking about.

I assume the Big East and the schools wouldn't have announced their membership had the contract not been signed.

What a jacked up orgy of teams the BE is becoming.

Marquette, St.Johns, Georgetown, Villanova, Seton Hall, DePaul, Dayton, etc. need to man up and break off.

They have wiggle room, just like TCU. $5 million penalty at most.

Yeah, because we'd totally be in line for a 2/3 seed with our record in that conference.

I'd rather them not be in the league anyway. Having football only teams shows a lack of cohesion and tradition in the conference. Can you imagine the Big 10/12, ACC, SEC, etc. having football only teams? It smells of mid-majorism.

Much rather have Temple and Memphis (major programs) IN ALL SPORTS join than Boise and SDSU (considered mid-majors 5 years ago). And at least Temple and Memphis are SOMEWHAT geographically East.

Both more east than MU.

Actually Memphis is slightly west of Milwaukee...it's even slightly west of Madison.

dwaderoy2004

My bad.  I thought Memphis was in the middle of the state.

That's fine. Even Texas is fine is SMU or whoever else joins (Houston? Wouldn't be a bad football add)

I just don't want a West Coast team in the Big East. Can you imagine those flights for the team?

But since we're just expanding Willy-Nilly for football, I'd like to see them go after at least ONE basketball team, coughcoughXaviercoughcough

Well for football only it wouldn't be that bad.  Four or five trips per year at worst.  Leave on Friday...come back Saturday or Sunday.  And your two hour plane trip becomes a four hour plane trip.

MU Fan in Connecticut

I actually would not be surprised if they went after Xavier.  They seem to be attempting to build close proximity rivalries.
UCF-USF, Temple-Villanova, Louisville-Memphis, already have Seton Hall-Rutgers, Cincy-Xavier seems to fit the pattern.  It's also why I can see UMass as a potential addition to rival UConn.  (They are attempting to mimic what UConn did, supposedly have Pats owner Bob Kraft as a backer and in addidtion to help partially bring back in the Boston market.)

How dare you suggest Memphis is further to the left (coast) than Madison!?! NO ONE is further left than Madison!

Just turn your map around and all will be well.

This all sounds very unlikely, but then again - the idea of the Big East actually getting some stability seems even more unlikely.
