Does anyone know if shumpert can play the point??

Also Thompson recently shortened his list and we were not on it

How many positions are we trying to fill for 2008?

dont forget about Jordan Theodore at PG.....he listed MU as one of the schools he's interested in/recruiting him hardest last month.  #19 PG in the nation per Scout

Quote from Cincinnati's coach

"I'm a numbers guy," observes Cronin, "so to sign six guys, we've got to recruit probably 20. It takes almost three-and-a-half to four guys to get one recruit. And that's way down from the number you start with. So now, when you're recruiting 20 guys to get six, you've got to recruit the kid, you've got to recruit at least one family member and at least one of the coaches, high school or AAU. So now you're dealing with 60 people on a daily basis as a staff."

Nathen Garth can be checked off the list.  He cut his list to 4 back in April and MU wasn't a part of it....but MU was out of the running well before that.

The coach to watch is Fred Hill.  Well liked and well connected in NJ.  Could hurt our prep activity on the East Coast.

MUDPT

Shumpert was listed as a priority for both MU and Illinois in yesterday's Chicago Tribune.

Speaking of recruiting, I'm treating a high school basketball player right now from a Chicago area high school.  He loves Marquette because of Dwyane Wade.  I'm not sure how good he is, but he played varsity as a sophomore, until getting injured.  I think we will see more of this in years coming up.  Kids who were in elementary school and middle school when DWade came upon the scene will look very highly on Marquette.  Those in high school when Dwyane became an NBA star already had their favorite NBA players when they were deciding on which schools to look at.

He's probably a long shot for both of those schools right now, Clemson is the leader, and he's basically their's to lose.  Unless Oliver Purnell screws up majorly, Shumpert is going to Clemson.

The Lens

Oliver Purnell has to be absolutely confused that a top player from Chicago has grown up dreaming of playing at Clemson.

I mean even more confused that Tim Floyd with OJ Mayo.  If I'm Purnell, I'd be looking for the Candid Camera..."Wait he said Clemson, as in South Carolina? Really?, Why?"

That is weird with Shumpert and Clemson. Then again, maybe he really wants the ACC play and knows that at a school like Clemson he can star whereas at a school like UNC he'd be a bit player?

Also, no confusion with Floyd and Mayo. The kid has made it pretty clear why he chose USC.

The Lens

I know the whole Mayo-USC story but I would bet that for the first coupe of days, Floyd was in a daze.

And no I'm not comparing the talents of Iman & OJ.

Part of it is the ACC....but Shumpert has also said he likes Clemson because of the uniform colors.  No I'm not kidding.  He said that he liked the orange and blue, but didn't want to be like all his friends and root for Illinois, so he looked for another school with orange and blue, and that just happened to be Clemson.

Just goes to show there's a lot more going into recruiting than just basketball.

MUDPT

Did Fabrizius just commit to Northwestern or was that someone else?

Fabrizius is still out there.  Northwestern got two commits over the weekend from AAU teammates Nick Fruendt and John Shurna.  Fruendt was also recruited by Wisconsin, and they were thought to be his favorite, but they didn't extend an offer.

Per Shumpert's own words, Clemson IS NOT HIS DREAM SCHOOL.  That is an exaggeration.  He didn't want to like all the same schools his buds liked, i.e. Duke, North Carolina so he started following Clemson initially because he liked the colors.  They are a player of his services but he is not Purnell's recruit to lose as we have just as good a chance of landing him as Clemson does.

bma725

When asked if it was his dream school, he didn't say no, and when asked why it was his dream school, he went on to tell what you just said.

Any non-ACC school is a long shot at this point, he was just offered and turned down Wisconsin.  He's starting to focus only on ACC schools and he's getting more interest from them every day.

Are you pulling this from somewhere or is this just your conclusions from reading things or are you somehow involved in Shumpert's recruitment?

I haven't read much about this kid's recruitment but your info seems pretty detailed.

Correct, he did turn down Wisconsin (or they "cooled on him") recently.

wow, just........wow.
Tennessee – "I like coach (Bruce) Pearl a lot. I like his coaching style. He's just like coach (Tom) Crean – he's going to get in your face. They love their players. Those two guys are the same type of coach. They really give freedom to their guards. He's funny to talk to. They have good academics there and I want to see their facilities and crowd, which usually sells out."
