"Marquette 3.0" article on SI.com
« on: February 22, 2012, 02:18:18 PM »
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/andy_glockner/02/22/Marquette/index.html

Interesting quote:

"The modus operandi for Golden Eagles 3.0 is to use their lack of size as a trigger to push tempo. Marquette has been over 70 possessions in three of the five games without Gardner and even dragged stubborn Notre Dame into a relative track meet by Irish standards (albeit while getting crushed by incredible Irish three-point shooting). After two games of so-so smallball offense, the Golden Eagles have ripped their last three foes, putting a searing 1.20 points per possession or more on each of them, and Williams has seen enough to buy in. He isn't going to mess with the latest incarnation, one that has provided a broader creative platform for multifaceted talents like Crowder and Darius Johnson-Odom."

thanks for sharing. it's definitely interesting to know that, even if 100% healthy, gardner may not play all that much unless absolutely needed for whatever reason

I think that this really suits Gardner. I truly believe he's best when coming off the bench, and am glad he can now get 20-25 minutes and remain a major contributor. If he can come back and split time with Wilson, while also at times playing alongside him, I really think that plays to Gardner's strengths.

Our potential was damaged when CO went down, but we adjusted admirably. At the time of the injury, I expected that Wilson and not Gardner would be best suited to step into the starting role. I still believe that, but for us to maximize what we can do without Otule, we need Gardner to get in there and give us points and rebounds while drawing fouls on the best opposing bigs.

I hope he's back for WVU, even if in limited minutes, and can really start contributing come the Big East tournament.

Gardner will struggle with the 3.0. That's a lot of running. Like brewcity said, 20 minutes would be nice. Even if it's only 10-15 minutes it's just another chip Buzz has in his pocket for game planning.

One other thing with the postseason right around the corner...we could end up playing a team like Drexel, Notre Dame, Michigan, Harvard, or Virginia, all of whom play at a pace similar to Wisconsin. Gardner could destroy those teams on the interior and wouldn't suffer as much due to pace.

Glockner has become a favorite of MU fans on twitter. He took up our cause Lazar's senior year when they won those three OT games on the road in February, and has been supportive of MU since.
