Ah. My bad. I thought was against UW. Perhaps I'm mistaken.

No, no was vs. Bucky. My point is Al wasn't gettin' into it with fans since this was a home game. Kim and Kerry Hughes' father is shown flippin' off McGuire. That John Powless, UW coach, in the foreground.

Chicos' Buzz Scandal Countdown

Buzz owns Uconn (3-0 in Storrs/Hartford). It's his student section.
"Half a billion we used to do about every two months...or as my old boss would say, 'you're on the hook for $8 million a day come hell or high water-.    Never missed in 6 years." - Chico apropos of nothing

Dear UConn,

Welcome to the bottom of the food chain.  How's it feel to be plankton?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I liked the guy who said that you'd never see Roy Williams do something like that.

They're right. Roy would wave security over and demand that they be removed.

This. I am not a big fan of Buzz yapping at the student section, if in fact he did, but from all accounts it was minor and most likely the result of 40 minutes of listening to those yahoos open their traps.

Coach K and Roy Williams have both been much more ridiculous at various points in their careers.

Buzz is an emotional guy on the floor. As long as we don't let it overshadow our success, I'm ok with it.

My cousin picked up four good tickets from a friend to an MU Cincinnati game when we were in CUSA and Huggins was the coach. The seats were right behind the Cincinnati bench, about 3 rows up. One of the guys could not make the game, so my cousin gave the extra ticket to Freeway. The whole first half, Freeway was yelling: "Huggins you bitch. Huggins you bitch. Huggins you bitch." It really was funny when Huggins called a timeout and walked about four feet out in the court and crossed his arms and just looked at Freeway (and us) with this wtf look. Huggins didn't have him removed. One of the people next to us got the usher to get him out. Loved the look Huggins gave him.

In addition to these tweets:
Buzz Williams egging on the student section with 16 seconds left. "What's up now?!". #notclassy

A professional classy coach would never stoop that low"

I don't hold 17-21 year old students to the same standard as a professional, grown man who is the face of a D1 basketball program.

A classy, professional coach like Jim Calhoun would never get into it with 17-21 year olds in a student section.

So, he was also dropping F-bombs?  I guess he would fit right in with UCONN's student section.   ;)

Let's put this one to bed real quick...

As far as I can tell, there are two "original" sources of the 'Buzz eggs on student section' tweets: John Silver (@CBSSportsUConn) and Emily Noonan (@emilynoonan).  The former is a UConn grad who covers the UConn football beat for the Journal-Inquirer but covers basketball only as part of CBS Sports' Rapid Reporter network (a/k/a freelance journalists who provide coverage of a specific team one paragraph at a time).  The latter is a student-journalist (think Brad Galli with MUTV).

Both of these people have a vested interest in stirring up controversy, or lamenting the downfall of their defending national championship team.  They are not unbiased reporters in these roles, and anything they write is more in tune with an editorial or opinion page than it is investigative journalism.  When someone, via Twitter, asked Neill Ostrout (@NeillOstrout) -- who happens to be the basketball beat writer for the J-I -- if the 'egging on' rumors were true, Neill replied "Didn't see it. No Idea."

Buzz might have been clapping and saying "what's up," and he might have been facing towards the student section, but was it actually directed towards the student section or was it perhaps directed someone down MU's bench and some hyper-sensitive student decided to make a big deal out of it?  Who knows?  But when the school's own beat writer for basketball dismisses the rumor & doesn't even bother to follow-up on it, that tells me all I need to know right there.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Well said Benny.  If there is video we would be happy to look at it.  Something like what Deane did at Looeyville.  Other than that, it is a lot of conjecture.

If not for that specific tweet, none of us would have ever heard of Emily Noonan. Now there's a thread discussing her and that tweet. I guess she did her job.

Warrior3211

I was at the game and I gotta say the atmosphere was pretty lame, which I'm sure can be attributed to their poor play, but it was nothing like going to a game at a full Bradley Center.  I know that's not what this thread is about, but I felt it was a pretty poor showing from their fans as defending National Champions.

More to the point. . . I love it when Buzz's antics get out of control. I hope the camera caught his reactions after big plays during that game, because there were some real gems.  Buzz's energy shows in his players and I think we all agree it's a good reason we're winning this year.  I would love it if Buzz WAS yelling something at the UConn students, if they truly deserved it. Who cares? If I'm a player that's gonna fire me up, because I know the coach has got the team's back.

I hope some of the posters from that UConn board are reading this, because they kept posting how they don't like Buzz. If Buzz is their coach, they would love him as much as we do.  Also, if Buzz is their coach with the talent they have, they'd probably be undefeated.

Glad he's on our side and I think he's going to build us into a consistent top 10 team and title contender.
