One of our best games of the year, but I'm a bit concerned about playing essentially a 6 man rotation (DWil, 4 minutes; JJ, 3 minutes; JA, 1 minute).  Against a team with more heart or in a closer game, could be trouble- the team did seem gassed.

GGGG

I understand what you are saying regarding the rotation...but the team seemed gassed?

DCWarriors04

Gassed? Was i watching the same game as you? With a week in between games, the team seemed fine today at the end. Had there been two games this week, I'm sure Buzz would have gone with a bigger rotation.

cheebs09

Well it will be a 7 man rotation when Gardner gets back. Aren't we short two scholarship players this year? One open scholarship and Thomas on scholarship for this year? So with being down 2 scholarships and our 2 centers it's tough to get a big rotation. Also, I think the depth of UCONN'S front line made it tough to be able to pull out Crowder or Wilson. Juan and Jamail would have been overmatched if they were out there for an extended period of time.

The Equalizer

Funny, I got into a discussion with another poster in another thread who argues vehemently that we've got the deepest lineup in years.

With Anderson, Jones, and DWilson combining for just 8 minutes, 0 points, 1 rebound and 3 fouls against UConn, I don't buy it.

Not when you have 4 starters going 35+ minutes.  That's not good for the upcoming back-to-back games in the BET, and not god for the short-turnaround between the 1st and 2nd rounds of the NCAA tournament.

I think the strength of this year's team is in the quality of the top 6 of the rotation--not the depth or the roster.

This.  +1
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

PVMagic

Agreed.

UConn, on the other hand, looked gassed.

LloydMooresLegs

Really just briefly around the 10/12 minute mark (after taking the game over again).  And gassed was too strong.  But I do think that a team with more fight could take advantage of it.   Really, the concern will come into play more w the BE tourney ( double bye will be nice!) with no off days, and the two games in 3 days at tourney time.  The guys are in ridiculous shape, but to win at the highest level, this team will have to play at the pace they did today for 35 plus minutes.  Tough to keep that up with only one sub.

84, how many people have to explain this to you. We are missing 2 players, our only 2 players that qualify as centers or big men. Yet Marquette is still winning games and playing six players consistently, and a seventh (Jones) should Jae or Jamil get in foul trouble. That is the definition of depth, that when someone goes down you still have players to pick up the slack.

If this team wasn't deep, it would have fallen off the map with injuries to not one but two key players. That is why people keep saying Marquette is deep.

Stronghold

We are missing 2 guys.  Depth is an issue no doubt.  All we can do is pkay hardet than the other team like we did today

Given your handle, I find your interest in conditioning strange to say the least!   ;D

When you say we only had 2 players that qualified as centers or bigs, aren't you really saying we lacked depth up front?

A deep team doesn't need Jamil Wilson to play 39 minutes or Jae Crowder to play 38 in a comfortable, dominating win.

If we were a deep team, we could lose two players and still maintain an 8 or 9 man rotation. But because of our lack of depth, when we lost two players--our only 2 bigs--Buzz shortened the core rotation from eight to six.

Plus, I think you're confused over why we're still winning--our top six players are outstanding and can increase their playing time up to 39 mpg. Not because Anderson, Wilson or Jones stepped up and gave us everything that Otule and Gardner gave us.

84, you made ignore again and only in 20 posts.  Congrats

bilsu

Buzzz's first two MU teams did not have any depth. In NCAA tournamnet most teams play with a small rotation.

20 posts and not much to say that's positve, but a bunch of endless, long-winded posts trying to prove your points. Welcome back SJS/Marquette 84, you weren't missed.
