What?!?  Were @onelund through @ninelund already taken?

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

No tweets yet.  Not holding my breath.

I don't know if you're joking, but I bet the T is for Tom

Even if he doesn't tweet, it's good that he's on it so that he can follow people and get information.

But if he isn't sharing it, what good is it for anyone to follow him?  Which is kind of the point.

dwaderoy2004

well, he gets paid to write articles, not tweet.  I'm assuming any information worth sharing would be found there.

He gets paid to report.  You can do that multiple ways.

dwaderoy2004

How does he or the newspaper make money off tweeting?

No newspaper is making or having reporters write for Twitter. Newspapers in the Chicagoland have begun restricting their beat writers Tweets instead.

What Rosiak did/is doing on Twitter is counter productive for the newspaper in general. He gives 100 character summaries of the good parts of his articles.

I don't blame Enlund or the MJS or any newspaper for limiting Twitter use.

Sure.  And it's short-sighted.  If done well, Enlund could really build a following as the source on Marquette basketball.  For instance, from the same paper, Tom Silverstein is very active on Twitter.  He holds Q&A sessions...gives his opinion...and links to his articles, which I am more apt to read.  When used right, it doesn't *replace* what is in the paper...it compliments what is in the paper, and drives traffic there.

And papers need to understand, that readers will get the information elsewhere.  If you simply decide not to have a social presence, you are really behind the 8-ball.

Outside of:
1) building a stronger reader base by providing a regular stream of information
2) driving traffic to stories and blog posts and
3) developing relationships with other writers to further strengthen content...
I can't think of any way that a reporter's Twitter use would help drive value for the parent company.  Maybe Enlund should stand outside of a Pick N Save in a parka and hector people to subscribe to the print edition instead.

Thats not enough??  If you look at social network, the key is to gather enough followers by having insightful information/opinions which in turn drives people to look for more content elsewhere.....or be famous for having a sex tape, that works too.  The whole point is Twitter can be used as a tease to get people interested.  Hell post the links to articles in twitter is enough to drive page views.

OK... that makes sense.  Now I just need to figure out what the "E" and "N" stand for, respectively.

Agreed. It has to be done right.

We were spoiled with TR, you never had to read a story if you followed his feed.

I understand that, but I never read Enlund's stuff anyway.  Between here, the scout board, CS, and various twitter sources, he doesn't really say much that hasn't already been said elsewhere.
