I like how ESPN questions the accuracy of the RPI system and introduces the Basketball Power Index that has SLU at #9 and Memphis at #17 (and MU behind both at #18, the NERVE!). Perhaps, this post was driven by MU's ranking, but Memphis and SLU ahead of us is ludicrous.

They got all giddy over how well the Total QBR worked out, what with Tebow ranked ahead of Aaron Rodgers at least one week this season.

ESPN has become the evil monster roving the plains.  I use to watch SC all the time, I can't remember the last time I turned on ESPN that didn't involve watching a game.

ESPN sucks. They have ruined two of the best sport stories lately (Tebow & Lin) with their over-the-top coverage. Once they decide to go all in on a subject, you see the full power of their empire.

I still watch ESPN fairly often. At the end of the day, they have the best coverage of all sports by far.

Sportscenter used to be "sports news" and highlights (with some entertaining commentary.

Now, it's more like Entertainment Tonight. It has some highlights, but it spends a lot of time with interviews and special pieces (like Tebow, or Lin, or Lebron etc.).

ESPN News are more like the original Sportscenter.

Also, with internet video getting so much better, SC has to come up with compelling reasons for people to watch. If it's just for highlights, people can get that online whenever they want.

A quarterback who thanks God after a good game
and
An unregarded basketball player who catches fire with a good couple of games.

I'm gonna pull an A Time to Kill and ask you to "Now imagine (they're Black)."

It's very hard to argue that ESPN treats either as a sensational story if the athlete is African-American, but of course, when someone like Floyd Mayweather points this out, he is the one who is "controversial."

to be fair no African-American ever did what Jeremy Lin did in his 1st 5 starts, or any NBA player for that matter. So it isn't like black people do it all the time like Mayweather stated, that being said I never watch ESPN unless Marquette is playing...it's the worst

ESPN's BPI ranking was developed by Dean Oliver, author of "Basketball on Paper", inventor of Offensive Ratings/Defensive Ratings, and the Four Factors.  Everything on Pomeroy's site was done by Dean Oliver first.  I wouldn't just casually dismiss it.

We can now return back to ESPN bashing and what Skip Bayless thinks about Jeremy Lin's haircut.

granted I'm nothing but a blind, unabashed Detroit fan, but I think that Ndomukong Suh would have a legitimate defamation case against ESPN and the NFL following his 'stomp' (on an arm, not a helmet) that didn't even make a man flinch, you have Robison on the Vikings repeatedly kicking a guy in the balls, Erik Walden beating the crap out of his wife, but those things aren't bad I guess, right?

The headline was about SUH BEING 4th ON THE LIST... I guess who cares who is 1, 2, and 3, as long as we can continue to hurt a young man's open market value!

I'm pretty sure the only ones who have the power to deface a man's career on that scale are ESPN and circle-jerk buddy Goodell and the NFL...  Goodell doesn't like that a player is standing in the way of this becoming a touch football league, so he goes to ESPN to take Suh down a few notches

Hate to be 'that guy,' but I'm fairly certain that Suh himself has the most power to drop his popularity ranking.  The obvious lying and backtracking he did in the interviews afterwards didn't help his public popularity... especially after everyone watched his blow-ups with their own eyes on Thanksgiving.

Is there anything that ESPN reported not true?  Bias does not equal libel.  Libel means that it was untrue, harmful and intentionally so.  While it could be argued that it was intentionally harmful, the fact that they are reporting the truth (however biased it might be) is the ultimate defense.

As bad as ESPN is, most gyms (where I catch nearly all of my sports "news") in the Boston area show only ESPN and NESN.  I gag every time I try to watch NESN with all the ball gargling they do over the area teams.
