What about Local Marquette Day? Again, the game isn't being broadcast on Time-Warner Cable's basic programming. So that means that probably around 70-80% of the viewing audience in Southeastern Wisconsin, where Marquette is located, can't watch the game without streaming or going out to a bar.

I think Marquette needs to revisit their contract with Time-Warner. If they want to have an exclusive deal, while I don't like it, I can accept that. However, they must ensure that EVERY game is available on their basic package. If it's not on ESPN, CBS, or another nationwide carrier, it MUST be on Time-Warner Sports.

Instead, today we get Illinois-Chicago (7-16) at Loyola-Chicago (5-18). Really? That's a bigger draw than Cincinnati at Marquette? This is a complete disgrace for Marquette, that their flagship station is broadcasting a game between the two worst teams in the Horizon League during their scheduled time on NATIONAL MARQUETTE DAY.

I'm honestly disgusted.

It's on ESPNU.

Derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp.

ESPNU isn't on basic cable.  It comes with either the digital variety pack or the TWC sports pass.

And that's not MU's, nor Time Warner's fault.

It's like blaming MU for playing at 2:30 on MLK day.

If you're gonna rant about TV today, at least know whose fault it is.

Yep.  BE game, BE package.  If it's on ESPNU, Time Warner cannot broadcast it.  Not by the decision of MU or Time Warner.

I wasn't ranting.  I was just pointing out that you failed to read the 1st two sentences of the OP.

Mr. Nielsen

The game is on national tv, ESPNU.  ?-(

If TWC isn't providing you with ESPNU, quit yer bitching about Marquette and start calling TWC.

ESPNU was standard on my last two cable providers.

And we're all just saying if brew want to watch it bad enough, cough up the 5 bucks and watch it. It's not like this is the only game on ESPNU this season.

Or he could go to the game since it's a home game in SE wisconsin.

Or he could go to any of the National Marquette Day festivities in the Milwaukee area.

Or he could go to a bar.

These are additional arguments that have nothing to do with it sucking that the game is on ESPNU if you don't pay for an expanded digital cable package.

If you don't have ESPN U with your package from your provider and you are in SE WI, you should be AT the game!  Go Marquette!

ESPNU is on TWC's "basic" digital tier.  -- I do wonder if Brew's 70-80% number is right, though .. I imagine 50%+ of cable subscribers get the digital tier.  Pay $30 (?) for 90 channels or can pay $60 and get 500, especially the HD ones.  (or whatever the numbers work out to be.)

I think he is a fireman, or maybe I am confusing him with someone else.  He might be "on" meaning he could not: go to the game, go to a bar, go to any festivities, or dictate what cable package the station has.

Not sure this is true.  I just recently had TWC and ESPNU was part of their "sports package".  Cost extra.

Comcast in Chicago doesn't have it on their basic package either.

I do get BBC America though, and a host of Korean channels, so I guess I've got that going for me...

TallTitan34

I'm going to fill in for Chicos here.

I have DirecTV (complete with ESPNU) and I've never been happier with a tv provider. In the three years I've been with DirecTV I've lost single one time for less than five minutes. With cable, I was losing signal four or five times a year.

Looks like you are correct.  ESPNU is part of the Digital Value Package .. or Sports Pass.

The DVP is the 3rd lowest package you can get.

Warriors10

ESPNU is standard on most, if not all, TWC packages.

If not, go to the game, or the bar.

I absolutely agree.  I initially went with DirecTV just for Sunday Ticket, but it's awesome.  ESPNU on the base tier and you pony up a few extra bucks a month during basketball season for the sports tier and get all the Marquette away games on MASN or SNY.

I like that this board constantly complains about the students and how bad they are that they can't fill up the arena on a Tuesday, but complains about taking off work on a Monday afternoon to go to a game or that they may have to go slightly out of their way to watch the game on TV when it's being played live down the road.

I believe Brew is serving us today while we get to enjoy the fun.  Unless you want your tax dollars going to DTV or TW sports packages, I am sure his passion has to be put on hold to save lives today.

Is National Marquette Day just another made up holiday like Sweetest Day or Secretary Day?

Brew, does Milwaukee pick up your cable/dish bill for the fire station?  We are responsible for our own here.    I will be watching the game from the comfort of the workout room today.   I find I get a much better workout while watching the games.   I can always get 5 more lbs on the bar or one more set done while watching a scoring dearth.    Same thing goes for Lions games.

Go to a bar.  Go to a friend's house.  Get a different television provider.

I think it was 2 years ago the same thing happened with the Syracuse game- it was on ESPNU, not part of the basic cable package.  I called Time Warner and berated them.  They connected ESPNU for the duration of the game for free.  So you can always call them and act like a child just before game time.  It might work, short-term.

I have since cancelled my Time Warner Cable.  The only thing I miss is the Dennis Krause Show.
