and it includes Pitt and Syracuse. I was under the impression those schools were committed to the BE for next season.

Did you actually red the article?  It states that the schedule will be 18 games, even though the conference is unsure when Pitt and Cuse will be joining.  As of right now, those two schools will still be playing in the big east next year.

There is nothing in the CBSsports basketball article that says the conference is unsure when Syracuse and Pitt will be joining. The way it is written, it is assumed that they will be joining next year; otherwise they would have said how they work an 18-game schedule for next year. Unless I am misreading it, which is possible.

Look at this article.

Does a good job of summing up the plan, but also notes that the plans are in place for once the 'Cuse and Pitt arrive without specifying an actual timeline.

Thanks, brewcity. That wasn't the basketball-only article I saw. Wonder if the schools are still pushing behind the scenes to get out early. And what ever happened to West Virginia's attempt?

I'm sure they both want out early. Right now, the replacement teams are slated to join in 2013. Which means I can't see us letting anyone go early prior to the 2013-14 season because it would leave us short teams for our own scheduling.

As far as WVU...that's still in court. Both parties have filed suits, both requests to have suits thrown out have been dismissed. It will be interesting to see how it plays out, but I can't see any way WVU gets out early as there's no real reason they should be exempt from the same rules SU and Pitt are seemingly adhering to.
