Can he be any lazier?  Claiming we haven't had much tourney success since Wade...I'd consider a Final Four and a Sweet Sixteen in the past ten years to be tourney success, not to mention we've made it 6 straight times since 2006 and will make it 7 with this year.

Does he realize that Idaho and California will be BE states for football only?

You do know that wade was on the final four team correct? He said limited success since wade, I'd say that's accurate. I think most agree on this board that MU is a top 20 program do making it Gould be expected. I don't follow the guy on a regular basis but I don't see a problem with the article, the big east is down compared to previous years. Will be interesting to see how the conference does in the tourney because they were awful last year.

Yes, I do happen to know that Wade was on the final four team.  I was just making a point of saying the past 10 years haven't been terrible by any means.

However the implications and tone in the article is a joke.  He makes it seem like the additions of SDSU and BSU are going to affect Marquette in some drastic way (considering they're football only schools...they won't).  He also implies that the Big East used to have serious credentials that are now gone as the traditional powers are down this year.  Well, the BEast still has 9 teams projected into the tourney according to bracketology--the most out of any conference.  Not to mention a single down year does not make a conference wane in power.  BEast got the most tourney bids last year and they likely will again this year.

mu_hilltopper

Amazing how playing in a conference where literally every other game is against an NCAA bound team is somehow underwhelming.

Most people have not read the article due to the new paywall, and such articles won't get many to buy a subscription either.

J-S is becoming more irrelevant by the day.
When we stop talking, really bad stuff happens.

GGGG

Actually the paywall resets today because it's the first of the month.

They have less than 10 MU articles a month.  They were never relevant and nobody here should have a problem with the paywall :)

dwaderoy2004

I see no problem whatsoever with this article.

i've been told the JS has a "soft" firewall which supposedly if you delete you cookies it will think you are getting article #1, I get the Sunday paper so I have a free online subscription so I haven't personally tried this trick.

The article seemed like a backhanded way of trolling, in my opinion.  And it worked.  So at least he is varying his style - instead of blatantly trolling.

I'll make sure not to waste my limited "article allowance" by reading anything by Mike Hunt.   :-\
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

If you're on a Mac, just use "private browsing" and it gets around the J/S paywall. I heard it works well for hiding porn from the wife as well.

jsglow

Mr. Hunt is simply a bum.  Last year he rehashed the same sexual assault article three times.  Never any new information or any thoughtful discussion.  Today's article is typical of his views and sloppy reporting.  Can't believe he still gets a paycheck.

A few things ...

One, I'd have changed my name all together if my parents had stuck me with that unfortunate confluence, but he does go by Michael.

Two, aside from being a little too dismissive of this year's Big East, I see absolutely nothing wrong with this column. Although columns are all about opinion and analysis, it is a fact that Marquette has won 4 NCAA games in 8 years since Wade left. It also is a fact that the conference is going to change markedly after this season, and not for the better.

Three, Hunt repeatedly praises Williams and the team's consistency, noting that many programs -- such as DePaul -- would kill to have Marquette's "problems."

Finally, a disclaimer: I know and like Michael, and I believe he is a quality columnist. When you do what he does for a living, you're always gonna piss off the readers who disagree with you and make those who agree with you happy.

Careful what you say about Mr. Hunt... he has a legion of loyal followers.  Granted, they're a bunch of douches, but a legion nonetheless.

(BTW - It's a double entendre, not a reference to MU82's post.  Most of you should have picked that up, but I just wanted to be clear.)

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Agree with everything you said.  It is accurate to say we haven't had much tourney success since Wade.  Getting in (which we have been successful at lately) is not tourney success.

Hoopaloop

He is correct the Big East isn't as good as in past years.  However, it's not like the conference is terrible.  I don't recall reading articles from the Journal Sentinel over the years when the Badgers were near the top at the same time the Big Ten was not anywhere close to a top 3 conference.

That's exactly what it is, an inferiority complex.  Why, I have no idea.

Whether it's Hunt or Woeful, MU fans always are harping on coverage that isn't glowing enough.

It's a fact that the BE is down this year.  It's a fact that MU hasn't had much tourney success since Wade left.  It's a fact that the BE will be a shell of it's former self soon.  IMO, it was balanced column, but I guess most MU fans just want butt kissing.

It's not the inferiority, it's the picking at all things Marquette that is never applied to Wisconsin.

He writes the column to garner pages views. MU fans hate it and read it. UW fans love it and read it. It's the lesser of the two evils and he's scared of Wisconsin.

Yes, the BEast in its current form is fading away.   Somehow, 42-41 is forever.     :'(
