Pitt up 5 @WVU with 2:30 left.  Would be yet another useful result for MU.  That Pitt win may turn out to be a quality one...

Freeport Warrior

Agree. I've got a feeling Pitt and Uconn are going to do some damage down the stretch.

nyg

Glad we played Pitt when we did.  With Woodall back they are a different team. Wins over Georgetown and UWV and they are now on a roll, winning their last three.

Tugg Speedman

at 14 - 9 (3-7) can they still make the tourney?

Big Daddy Z

Only if they win the Big East Tourney

You are correct sir.

It'd be a very tall order. They probably can't afford to lose more than 1 more Big East game, even if they go 9-9 they'll need to win a few in the tournament. It's not impossible, and they are done with Marquette, Syracuse, Georgetown, and Notre Dame, but that long losing streak included 3 sub-100 RPI losses. They've got a lot of work to do.

JTBMU7

Jamie Dixon definitely showing his skills as a coach there. 8 losses in a row, comes back to win 3 big ones and a huge road rivalry game. kept his team positive, playing hard, and good things happen. Would hate to see them at MSG....

Given all the time Woodall missed, I think 9-9, 20-11 and acouple of wins in the Big East tournament gets them in.

Absolutely.  While it will take something like 10-8 in conference (meaning that they only have one more mulligan), there is no way the committee doesn't include a 21 win BEast team that's above .500 in conference and can point to a devastating injury for a series of losses.  It is a tall order, but possible.

agreed.  the committee is big on "what have you done for me lately" especially when injuries are concerned.  I think a hot Pitt team makes it in

And if you look at their schedule, only road games at Louisville and UConn look problematic.

Tugg Speedman

How about the other side?  At 15 - 8 (5 - 5) is WVU in doubt to make the tourney?

Connecticut (and MU) made it in last year with a 9-9 Big East record.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

+1...they'll take the injury into consideration, and if pitt. stays hot they can get in.  there is no doubt they are a ncaa team with woodall.  actually, if they do get in, it's going to be a really crappy draw for someone because they'll be playing much better then their seed will indicate.

Sure.  Far from a lock at this early stage.  But I wouldn't call them a bubble team.  Maybe an 8-9 seed at this juncture.

It depends on how the NCAA views the Woodall injury as a factor.  If they finish strong, even with a weaker record, the NCAA could give them the benefit that had Woodall not been injured, they may have done better.

DCWarriors04

It's possible...still have the BET they could win

godzilla

With Woodall, I wouldn't be surprised to see Pitt win the BE tourney.

+1 ... right there with you.  in fact I have a feeling they or Nova will be the ones to take out Cuse, making it anyone's game this year (ours???)

If they go from 0-7 to 8-10 they will get a bid, if they win the first round Big East tournament game. On the flip side, if MU went from 7-2 to 9-9 they would not get a bid, if they lost in the first round of the tournament.

I fully expect them to get to 8-10, maybe better.

Some more attrition to look for this week, hopefully we can keep winning and have this help us solidify our spot near the top of the standings:

Wed: UConn at Georgetown
Sat: USF at Georgetown
Mon: UConn at Louisville

Would be nice if Uconn could find a way to win both those games.
Lazar picking up where the BIG 3 left off....

dwaderoy2004

I would want uconn to beat georgetown but lose to louisville.  We have the head to head win over louisville but still have to travel to uconn.
