Everything's screwy. SJU beats WVU, DePaul wins a Big East game on the road, Pitt gets their first Big East win, even Notre Dame is beating the Hall on the road.

The only semi-normal thing was UL beating 'Nova to get to .500 in Big East play.

Having a BE Player of Year season.  May even be First Team AA if he keeps it up.  Impressive.

Notre Dame went to New Jersey, and a Big Ten game broke out.

19-18 at the half, under 100 total points scored. Setting Big East basketball back 40 years...

Just continues to pile on to me telling people to quit hyping Seton Hall.

They no become a game where a loss is a very bad loss.

Brew, how many BE wins do you think ND needs to make the dance?

If you look at their schedule, I think they can get to 10.

10 BE wins would equal 13 losses on the season.  IIRC I don't think a team has ever made it to the tourney with 13 losses.  Beating #1 Syracuse certainly helps their cause and they don't have any terrible losses which is nice, but I still think they'd probably need 11 BE wins or 10 with a really really deep BE tourney run.

Your own team had 14 last year and made the Dance.

Marquette wasn't the only 14-loss team in last year. Michigan State, Penn State, USC, and Tennessee also had 14 losses last season and made the tourney, while Michigan and Illinois both had 13.

10 wins would also mean a RPI of around 80. No at-large has ever made the tournament with a RPI below 75. I also don't believe any Big East team has ever earned an at-large with 5+ non-conference losses.

Non-con slips could have both Notre Dame and Cincinnati testing those past truths. I think 11 conference wins will get them into bubble talk. 10-8 just doesn't seem like enough.

Wow didn't realize that, I could have sworn that the magic number was always 12 losses.  Just to note, I mean 12 losses before the conference tourneys.

Remember, you're allowed to play nearly 82 games now.  That's why you should punch any commentator* who tries to defend a coach by bringing up "He won 20 games last year!"

Last year the bubble was really soft. A combination of many teams simply not being that good and the expansion of 3 more at-larges meant worse teams were going to make the cut. Tough to say where the cut-off, loss-wise, will be this year. We'll have a much better grasp in about 2-3 weeks once conference schedules start to get into the final stages.

And in the past, plenty of 13+ loss teams have made the tournament. Arizona and Maryland had 13 in 2009 and Arizona with 14 in 2008 were the most recent. But in 1998, 2005, and 2007 teams with 13+ made the at-large cut. But probably the ugliest at-large was in 1991. Villanova made the tourney with a 16-14 record, 7-9 in the Big East (7th place).
