Sorry if this already has been posted. Didn't see it.

http://www.forums.gopherhole.com/boards/showthread.php?35718-Q-amp-A-Phil-Nolan-Hearing-from-Marquette-Oklahoma-and-Minnesota

Gopher Hole: What is the latest on your recruitment? I know that you were hearing from some schools in the fall, but decided to wait to make your college choice. Who are you hearing from the most?

Philip Nolan: It would be Marquette and Oklahoma. I pretty much re-opened my recruitment. Minnesota started back, too.

Gopher Hole: Have you thought about making some visits or go to any college games this year?

Philip Nolan: I went to the Marquette-Louisville game last Monday. I haven't given it much thought since the first signing period ended. We are just focusing on playing this year and now I can start looking into it more.

Maybe its just me, but if you 'reopen' your recruitment, aren't you really saying, no one wants me very badly?

I sense "Durley-isn't-coming" blather is imminent.

Or another team came on strong that makes you re-think all your options. My guess is there are plenty of teams that want Phil Nolan badly. This is good news for Marquette. Both parties had been rumored to have moved on, but obviously that's not the case.

If things worked out, I'd still take Nolan. There's definite value in a 6'11" 3/4 star project. Him, Durley, and Taylor could potentially make a really long frontcourt 2-3 years down the line.

Why don't we just take him, seems like he wants to be here.

If any of you follow Nolan on twitter you would notice how closely he follows the team. I recall after the g town loss he tweeted "man this loss hurts. I've loved Marquette my whole life and it has been my dream school my whole life." I would love to have him on the team. Just a matter of how.

A talented, home-grown big, who actually wants to play at MU. Hope we can get it done.

It's great to hear that Nolan is still a possibility.  It can't hurt to keep that Milwaukee recruiting pipeline primed with the talent that's coming up.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Could be wrong but I think academic eligibility will be in question.

Correct. But Marquette showing interest has to give some hope.

As it says further down that forum...
the note about MN being at 13 scholarships could include a note about Marquette always over-recruiting because someone is always leaving early for whatever reason.

I read it explained as he was "starting completely over" or something to that effect. He let out a Top 5 list soon after and Marquette was on it.

This was 2 days after Marquette announced their fall signings.

So take what you want from all of that.

If we take him someone on the current team has to go or a recruit for next fall not come.  So, who do you want to kick off the team, or not see come next year to make room for him?

That's why he's not an easy decision.

You never stop recruiting because you never know what is going to happen.  It's the nature of college sports.  Tyshawn Taylor happens, Maymon happens, Reggie Smith happens.  Just look at the national averages for transfers.

And that very well could be why nothing is going to be (unofficially) announced until after the season ends.  If Nolan verbals now the team is going to be dogged with the "who's leaving" question the rest of the year.  Not exactly healthy.

Exactly.  That is when Buzz makes his assessments and gives the "I think it would benefit you more if....."

GGGG

By the way, even if someone transfers and Nolan (or some other 2012) comes to MU, we still would have no room to take anyone else in 2013 besides our one-person class of Burton.  Which again means that someone else would have to leave to make room for the likes of Kendrick Nunn.

So honestly, I have no idea how much Buzz is interested in Nolan.  It seems to me that we wouldn't have signed Durley in November if Buzz was interested in another big, but who knows...

Stretchdeltsig

Would love to see us sign another "big"!

Is Nolan playing basketball this year?  Thought he was never cleared in WI ... could be wrong.

[Never mind, I read the article]

He was just cleared this month and has played in the last several games.

According to a Blog post written by Jeff Borzello of CBS Sports, Phillip Nolan wants to play for a team that will allow him to play his freshman year. "I want a place to help me improve my game, but I also want to play my first year," ..."Basically, a place that's willing to work with me (Nolan, Phillip)."

Since the post is from July 2011, maybe he doesn't feel the same way anymore.

Would Buzz promise Phillip playing time his first year?
