Fab Melo is out.
I already knew this. If your the best team in the country your supposed to be able to deal with adversity. We lost Otule?

Wow, Otule has become legendary in his absence.

Not legendary.   He is what he is.   An active big body who does things our team misses simply because he is an active big body.

Exactly.  Fab is 100x the player that CO is.

Its not the fact that Melo is better than Otule. The point is that great teams have to be able handle adversity. Just like we have been able to do. Melo is way better like you said but they have many capable players on there bench.

The point is that is isn't overly shocking that they are losing without him.

The Irish are similar to Wisconsin at home...at least, Wisconsin before MU showed up there. It wouldn't be shocking if Syracuse were losing with him, was actually expecting the upset once I heard Melo was out.

Digger Phelps called the upset on Game Day from Pittsburgh although it appeared to be tongue-in-cheek and he always picks the irish

Will make our victory feel all that much better when we beat the livin' piss out of them in SB ;)

Otule = Melo?   :o

Nope. I'd say Otule's more important than Melo. Melo scores a couple more and rebounds a little more (literally, Melo averages 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds more per game than Otule). His blocks are huge, but Syracuse has another able replacement in Keita that can fill the role and also averages over a block a game. It took us over a month to put together a truly dominant performance after Otule went out because no one could do what he did. Not the case for Syracuse.

Melo is a better player, and has a better prospective pro career, but in terms of importance to their respective teams, I definitely feel Otule is more important than Melo.

+ a Frozena trillion

People dismiss Otule but glorify Melo cuz he was a 5*. Otule was just as if not more important to us. And I must admit you were right about ND vs. Cuse, I didn't think they had what it took to take advantage on the glass, but they did and hit their threes as well. Still think we'll beat them there. We're a bad matchup for them. We won't be sitting back in a 2-3.

More importantly, I could see Gardner giving Cooley issues.

Marquette suspends Cadougan for a game and wins.
Marquette suspends DJO for a game and wins.
Marquette 8-4 without Otule.

I hope so. I think Gardner getting Cooley in foul trouble could be the biggest key to us winning that game. We have guards that can slow down Atkins and Grant, but Cooley is a load inside. Neither Knight nor Broghammer are on his level. Conversely, if DG gets in foul trouble himself, we could have a lot of trouble. We don't have anyone else that is as physical as Cooley, and he could do a lot of damage inside.

My prediction: the player with fewer fouls at the end of the game will be on the winning team.

They played tougher competition without Otule.

That was easy.

MU82

We will be in trouble at ND if they are hitting their 3s.

We don't defend 3s all that well to begin with. Add in the fact that we will have to pay quite a bit of attention to Cooley inside.

And, of course, where the game will be played.

Add it up, and we'd better have one of our best performances of the season if we hope to win. Would help tremendously if ND is cold-shooting from the outside.
