So who is the idiot who just new MU is not a top 15team?

rocky_warrior

Hah heard that.  I just hate that we're proving him right currently...

forgetful

You know if we get back into this game the same guy will be saying that's why they're a top 15 team.

He called it over with seven minutes left. MU doesn't pass the eye test

Tugg Speedman

He called MU "second round talent with final four effort"

He said this was based on the video youtube clips he watched this year.

1) Dykes is right.  He is one of the true experts out there, not like the pollsters.  We are not playing well right now.  We have one great win, got lucky to beat Norfolk State in the championship of a tournament.  If that shot isn't 1 inch too long at the end, all of this top 15 stuff would be gone a long time ago
2) When calling someone an idiot, would it not make sense to use proper English usage?  "Knew", not "new"
3) My belief was a top 3 Big East team, but from what I have seen the last couple of weeks including that Norfolk State game, I have sincere doubts

impossible for us to compete against superior height and wingspan. No passing or driving lanes tonight

So this is why we shot 33% with most of the shots that did not fall being wide open looks.   So the secret to beating MU is a big guy standing in the lane 15 feet from an open shooter.  He uses his telepathy to get them to miss.

This is why I hate this board after a loss, all the tired and inaccurate cliche's are spouted by people that think they are offering wisdom.

We didn't just lose because of our poor shooting, our defense all year has issues.  Someone will throw some stats up to try and say that isn't true, but using the eyeball test our defense gives up way too many easy shots and our extensions on their outside shooters opens up way too many lanes.  Our rotations on the weak side are so late.   We have some considerable items to clean up promptly.  Fortunately the Big East is weaker this year which allows us a little breathing room.

When the hell did Jimmy Dykes become the end all of college basketball analysts?

It's OBVIOUS to me that size and agility give us loads of trouble on the offensive end.  Our primary offense is drive and dish for easy shots.  When that is cut off from us by big guys around the rim and we are forced to rely on jump shooting, we are in trouble because we are not a good jump shooting team.  Wide open jump shots are not good shots for us unless Crowder or DJO are taking them.

All of that being said, our real problem is our inability to guard a team with shooters and size and agility.  Without Otule, we do not have a player who can guard a good post man, and our constant overplaying leaves driving lanes and shooters wide open.

Because we couldn't get in the lane and many passes were deflected we took open shots that missed. How many defensive rebounds did they get which closed us out on the offensive end?
I guess reality is a cliche to some

Vandy 38 rebounds  MU 32 rebounds

Oreb = Vandy 9, MU 14

Stats don't back you up.

You decided were are too small and will use every loss to say that no matter the reason for actually losing.

Did anyone suggest he was?  He sure had our team nailed tonight, however.  The one thing I do like about him over a number of other analysts is that he not only coached in high major basketball, but he played in it as well.  A good number of the analysts played at small schools or some never at all.  Dykes is too pro-SEC for me, but a smart guy and solid announcer.  I'd take him over 70% of the ESPN announcers.

I'm sorry I guess I used a bit of hypebole.  I think it's ridiculous to call him "one of the true experts". By almost any other measure MU was a top 15 team going into the game, but I guess the Dykes eye test is what is most important.  Oh and he's a crap announcer too.

I liked that he picked DJO as a key player to watch, and then called him Todd Mayo on the steal and break away dunk layup.

Hey Chicos called him one of the best in the business.  Fact that he was down on MU from the beginning of the game in no way color Chicos opinion.

We missed 46 shots and got 14 O Rebs (25.9%)  They missed 32 shots and got 9 O rebs (28.1%), so they actually did a better job of offensive rebounding than we did.  Some of those misses were first of 2 FTs so those %'s aren't exact.  In your argument you somehow take it as a given that we are missing wide open shots.  I did not see the start of the game because of the Florida-Rutgers game, but in the game I did watch, the quality of the shots being taken by Vandy were significantly better than the quality of shots we were taking.  In fact I would say they missed more easy shots than we did from the time the game went national.

As we noted in another thread, we outscored them once the game went national.

Jimmy Dykes knows hoops.  I watched most of the Big East games this week and without a true center, I do not see us beating to many teams.  Gardner as you found out tonight was
not ready to play.  He is a good back-up right now, that is it.  Otule had 2 solid years of playing, gave MU a defensive presence, without him, Crowder can not do it all.  Secondly, DJO
does not give this team enough vocal leadership.  I hope this was just a bad game.
