This team isn't gonna win if they don't make more ft's than the opponent attempts

What we learned:

We can lose to less talented, yet athletic teams if we don't shoot well (and we can beat anyone when we are shooting well). This was almost identical to the Washington game, except we lost. Washington shot better than they normally do and it was close. Both games could have gone either way. It just wasn't our night.

I saw in another post where someone doesn't like Buzz's pace and D. I think it's rather fun to watch, and when it's rolling, it's a thing of beauty.

The LSU guy who hit those threes was out of his mind. His form and release were like if Vander was shooting those. We wanted him to shoot -- fading every which way and launching almost double-clutch-like. Unfortunately, they were all going in last night.

I've said it before, I just don't like Cadougan and Vander on the floor together for long spurts -- not enough offense. When there's decent interior D -- and LSU had it last night -- those two play too much hot potato. You know they are not going to shoot it. And if Vander can't drive, it's over. He does play good D, but I've watched/isolated Mayo and he is pretty tough as well. I would much rather have him and his freshman mistakes out there, especially in the end when we need points. I didn't understand why he spent the end of the game on the bench when we needed points.

I thought most of our charges could have gone either way too.

Tough loss, but it's just one game.

I still like this team and still think we can make a nice March run, especially if Otule is playing. However ...

Those who couldn't wait to proclaim this the best MU team since whenever, Mayo the best freshman since so-and-so, DJO a future NBAer, etc., need to chill out a little and let the season play out.

I know those are mostly fun conversation starters, but it's simply too early to tell about any of this stuff.

Mayo looked like a deer in headlights, DJO was kicking the ball all over the place in crunch time, Gardner was lost for long stretches and the bench for the "deepest MU team since" whenever looked pretty sad.

Those things will happen to a team still learning about itself.

As I've said in some previous posts, I'll believe this team is better than the '03 bunch when I see them cutting down the net at the end of a regional. Period.

So you don't want people putting too much stock in a 10-game winning streak yet you're fine judging DJO's NBA prospects based on 1 bad game?

Hmmm... what I learned...

1.  We need Otule really just for Gardner to get a breather.  He looked gassed as some points.

2.  We are human.  LSU hit some big shots.  We lost.

3.  We can not beat major conference teams with just talent.  We need to play smart.  I saw our guys put up TERRIBLE shots.  I think this is where the "we make more FTs than the opponent attempts".

Difficult as it may be -- it's human nature to get excited when things are going well and distraught at the first sign of trouble -- I just want people to keep things in perspective.

I've never been high on DJO's NBA prospects. If he really develops a consistent NBA-distance 3-point stroke, there's always a need for shooters and that's his ticket to at least get a look. Otherwise, his skills are not superior to the thousands of other very good college guards his size over the years who just weren't/aren't quite special enough.

Wow...I am speechless that this is what you "learned".
