Family and I moving to a new house.  My TV options are DTV or TWC.  I am leaning toward TWC b/c of Sports32, but would prefer DTV for NFL nw, red zone channel, etc.  My question is, for those with DTV, do you get the MU games that are on SNY or MASN or other channels, or are they blacked out?  I have season tickets so the issue is only for about 2-3 games per year, but even for the games i go to i like to record the game and rewatch for highlights, etc.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

Any games that are normally on TW-32 will be blacked out for DTV in Milwaukee.  More info on the sticky topic titled "Viewing Guide."

To maximize MU viewing in Milwaukee, you need T-W, no [legal] way around it.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

MuMark

If you get the sports pack you will get most of the games on SNY/MASN.

Some of the early season buy games are blacked out or delayed. Northern Colorado was shown live. Looks like UWM is being shown on Friday instead of Thursday.

All or most of the BE games should be available live.

Buzz's show is available on friday afternoons.

Purchasing DirecTV and then purchasing ESPN FullCourt (if it's worth the money to you) should cover all the games.  I think ESPN FullCourt covers most of the TWC games.

I've got TWC in Milwaukee and none of the games are ever blacked out.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

Mostly incorrect.  Games on SNY/MASN/MSG/Full Court/EPSN3/etc. that are also aired on TWC will almost always be blacked out if you live in T-W's territory and are attempting to watch games via a different cable/satellite provider.  So if you live in Milwaukee & have DirecTV, you would be blacked out from 7-8 games this season, 5-6 of which will be during conference play - it doesn't matter whether you have the Sports Pack, Full Court, ESPN3, etc. or not.

Time Warner has exclusive rights to any game listed as TWC32 or "Big East Network" on the TV schedule... that means blackout if you're in their territory and don't subscribe to T-W.

As well they shouldn't be.  Blackouts only affect viewers who meet both of the following criteria:

1) Live in Time Warner's area (in Wisconsin).
2) Don't subscribe to Time Warner Cable.

(and sometimes the people who live in Comcast/Chicago region for reasons yet unexplained.)

that's what I thought I'd read before but then why wasn't the N. Colorade game blacked out on D*? We went to a bar to watch it but I set the dvr to record just to see if it was blacked out like the UW-GB game was but it was televised afterall.

The bolded part is mostly incorrect, as well.  I have had satellite for years, and this is how it works:
1)  Most non-conference games that are produced by Sports32 ONLY will be blacked-out in Milwaukee.
2)  Conference games that are produced by Big East Network are not blacked-out.

If you go with Dish or DTV, buy the multi-sports pack.  ESPN full-court and ESPN3 are subject to the same blackout rules.  Of course you can watch those blacked-out non-conference games on delay on ESPN3.  Go to the game, and hook it up to your TV with an HDMI cable whenever you want to rewatch and you are all set.

Go to the schedule on Gomarquette.com.  It will specify which games are Sports32 games (most non-conference home games) only, and which are Big East Network produced (conference games).  The Big East Network games will not be blacked out on MASN or SNY.

Good luck.

MuMark

You are wrong.

Most or all of the BE games are shown live. Last year the first BE game was at Rutgers. I went to a friend's house to watch it because I was told it was a TW game and would be blacked out on DTV. My DVR recorded it and every BE game was shown last year. I seem to remember in years past some being same day delayed but they were all shown.

This.  As long as the Big east Network is involved and SNY or MASN are carrying it, no blackouts that I've ever had.  So you just miss a random game like Jacksonville at the beginning of the year usually which is handled by season tickets.

What channel is the game on tonight, for DirecTV?  I am a new customer this month, and I have no clue.

The LSU game is on multiple channels and not on SNY (639).  It is on FS South (646), FS South Alt (648-1), FS Florida (654), FS Wisconsin (669-1), and 695-1.  FYI....I just listed the HD broadcasts as there are others in SD.

BenCat12

Thanks, but do I need the upgraded sports package to get those stations?

MuMark

BenCat12

So I get fox sports out of minnesota, but I don't get FS Wisconsin?  Ok?

SaintPaulWarrior

No not OK....you have to upgrade to the sports pack.  Fox Sports North/Minnesota has the Wild game on tonight.

BenCat12

That was a sarcastic OK, it annoys me that I have Fox Sports North, and I can watch Wild Hockey, but not MU basketball......

SaintPaulWarrior

Nothing wrong with Wild hockey this year...second best team in the NHL behind the BlackHawks who beat them at home last Wed.

I just got DirecTV and I still get FS Wisconsin, so you should be fine for tonight's game.  Thursday's game, and many of the Big East games, you would, as mentioned, have to get ESPN FullCourt or another additional package to watch some of the games.  Not sure, though, if UWM will be blacked out.

You will only be able to get FS Wisconsin without buying the sports pack if you live in WI. Anyone out of state will need to buy the sports pack for tonight's game.

reinko

Here in Massachusetts, I weirdly got blacked out on a few, but finally found one, 669 to get it.

Also, to the original poster, DTV, does NOT have the Red Zone Channel, only the Sunday ticket.
