Buzz talked about this during the post game with Homer and Thompson ....

With Anderson, Wilson and Otule out, MU only has 9 healthy players for practice (including Thomas).  So, no 5 on 5 drills.  It is finals week so I don't think they can call another walk-on finalist now, one that hasn't practiced and is probably knee-deep in finals himself.  Maybe during break.

Can the coaches fill in?  How about Alumni?  Robert Jackson was at the game.  Is he allowed to help out in practice and play against Gardner?  Can they designate him an "assistant coach" on short notice?

If no to all these questions and the answer is no 5 on 5 drills until some players come back, how does this affect perpetration?  Not so much against Northern CO next Saturday but I'm thinking about the following Monday at LSU and beyond?

Thoughts?

This is a danger of an 11-man roster. We suffered the same problem Buzz's second year when injuries had them below 10 bodies. Hopefully Jamil is back to practice soon, he was at least wearing warmups and took part in the UW-GB pregame shootaround, so hopefully he'll be back soon.

Can't we stick Jamie McNeilly in a pair of shorts for a few hours of practice?

I'd imagine there are some bball alumni who could help out.   RJax has played with the team in the past.   Other guys are local, like Terry Sanders, Rob Frozena.

I recall they had walk-on tryouts back in September, obviously they didn't pick anyone. (Or no one tried out?)  They could lower that bar.

If I recall, students did show up.  Must not have been very good.

I'm sure Jimmy Mac has some time on his hands.

I don't know what his knees are like, but I have seen Fulce around campus several times this semester. I am sure he would be willing to fill in for the week, if able.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

There are no walk ons?

Jake Thomas is included in the 9. For all intents and purposes he is a walk-on even though he's on scholarship this year.

THEultimateWARRIOR

Wonder if Deonte Burton would be allowed to come over from vincent to practice with us over break? im sure its some sort of ncaa rule violation but whatever

Marqus Howard

Jamil was shooting around yesterday without any type of brace on his ankle. I wonder if he will practice, even if it's only at half speed.

RyanConroy

Yeah, he didn't even appear to have any limp. I think he'll be ready to practice by Tuesday or so.

Not true.  During the second half warmup he was favoring the bad ankle.  He was certainly heavily taped and would only have played in an emergency (injury or serious foul trouble).  I wouldn't expect him to practice at all this week in an effort to have him heal in the shortest possible time.  I think the good news is that Wilson seems likely to be back relatively soon.  I'd expect him to be ready for BEast action in three weeks.

I don't really understand the rationale behind an 11 man roster. Why not have 3 walk-ons and 13 or 14 total guys? What does that hurt? They're still paying their way. And it gives Buzz so many more options in practice if the injury bug hits. Is there really a decent explanation for such a small roster, besides that it saves on travel expenses?

They held walk-on tryouts and took no one.  I assume this means no one was good enough.

perpetration?

I love this word!

There are so many possible meanings (some unprintable) that I can't even begin

I'm sure Jimmy Mac has some time on his hands.

I recall him stating that he was working out with the team on one of his radio broadcasts a couple seasons ago.

This is somewhat off topic but speaking of roster size, can anyone explain how Syracuse has such a huge roster?  If I'm not mistaken they have 20 guys listed here.  http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/team/roster/_/id/183/syracuse-orange

I know there is a limit to schollies but isn't there also a limit to the overall roster?

I think having a few walk ons that are sucky doesn't do you any good and could actually hurt one of the scholarship players.

I think there's a limit to the number of players you can dress for a game, but that's it. They're got about twice as many undergrads as Marquette does, so it's probably a bit easier to track down guys willing to give up all that free time.
