Jimmy Butler: The Quintessential Bull

In Chicago, the word is that we need a #2 guard who can find his own shot...  I don't think people know that he might already be on our team.  Didn't Jimmy Butler find his own shots within our system?

As much as I like JB and respect his game, he's not going to be a scoring 2-guard in the NBA, especially when you consider that the Bulls are looking at guys like Jason Richardson and Jimmy's older brother Caron.

If I remember correctly, he took people off the dribble and hit his mid-range jumper often!  He also led the team in free throws a few years (because he takes it to the hole).

But it was in the flow of the offense.  It's a little different in the NBA.

As much as I love Jimmy as a college player, I doubt he will be much of a scorer in the NBA.  I could see him developing into a nice bench player and defensive stopper, kind of like a poor man's Ronnie Brewer (who is already on the Bulls).

Ronnie Brewer is exactly what I envision for Jimmy.  A 6'7" wing player who can defend the 2-4 (the non-traditional face-up 4 by NBA standards) and maybe provide you a few buckets along the way.

That is by no means a bad thing.  Guys like Brewer have long careers in the NBA...hell, Brewer even started for a while in Utah and Memphis.  Could Jimmy evolve into a starter for someone, sure.  But realistically he's going to an opportunity to carve out a nice niche for himself as a glue guy:  a hard working, shut down defender.

I'm beyond excited for him (and selfishly for me seeing as how he's getting his start in Chi-town).  Can't wait to see #21 take the floor this year!

Boozer had praise for first-round pick Jimmy Butler.
"He works his butt off," Boozer said.

That's the only mention of Butler though.
