At half, UWM is killing DePaul. 48-28

UWM has hit a ton of 3s.

DePaul looking terrible, lazy and sloppy.
“All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act out their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.” - T.E. Lawrence

Looked like us versus Norfolk St. in the second half, but a good game by UWM.  Meier and Williams are solid.  Paris Gulley was knocking it down even with that ugly jumper.  Could be another close game versus UWM in the Cell this year.

I could only watch 2 minutes of this game (15min - 13min left in 2nd half). Too painful to watch, had to watch more reruns of Storage Wars instead.

I do have a question on Depaul though... I've read in the past that MU will pay anywhere from 40K - 100K for a buy game. It is a fairly easy leap to see how that would make financial sense for Marquette.  How does Depaul do buy games? They can't possibly cover those costs with that kind of attendance.

DePaul drew 6,661 last night, but last year averaged 7,676. If they charge $10 per ticket, that's close to $80,000 per game. Let's say they split that 50/50 with the All-State, that still leaves $40,000 per game, a total of $640,000 for the 16-game season.

Of those 16 games, 9 are Big East games, 1 in Big East/SEC Challenge, and 1 is Chicago State. DePaul seems to have 1-1 and 2-1 deals with a number of Chicagoland schools, so I'm going to assume they don't pay any buy fee for those 11 games.

That leaves 5 buy games. Of those, three are against god-awful teams: Texas Pan-American, Mississippi Valley State, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Figure those are your $40,000 buy games (or less). Then you have Cal Poly, a mid-level buy (projected at 156 RPI), which I would guess (strictly a guess) tops out at around $80,000. For those 4 games, that's $200,000, which still leaves them with $440,000 from the gate (assuming they only get 50%).

I'm sure UW-M doesn't cost near that much, and it's possible DePaul has a 2-1 or 3-1 deal with them, especially as they've hosted Milwaukee the past two years. It wouldn't surprise me at all if that was a free game for them, and for DePaul, a game the Panthers could bus to, I doubt they would charge anywhere near top-dollar even if it is a buy game.

At worst, they're taking home over $350,000 from the gate, maybe not enough to fund the program, but definitely more than enough to cover the cost of a few buy games.

UWM got $75,000 for this game.

I just might call the dagger for next Tuesday's UW-UWM game at The Cell.  I think I just did!   ;D

It should be fun watching Bucky nation defend being the 3rd best college basketball team in the state.   :o
