but I hope Jim Burr refs the game.  WI only plays 6 players and those players average only 8.5 fouls/game.  WI averages 11 fouls/game and both teams (wi/opponents) average 26/game.  Jim Burr (and his ref partners) average 35 foul calls a game and Burr loves calling fouls on the home team.  If we can get WI in foul trouble they have no bench and they don't shoot foul shots well (62%).  MU on the other hand has 2 solid players at every position.  1-JR/DWilson, 2-DJO/Mayo, 3-VB/JJ, 4-JC/JWilson, 5-Otule/Gardner.  Bring on the fouls as long as they are called evenly.

I don't think you can count on any Jim Burr reffed game being the mark of consistency.

I think do not agree with this, because the Burr group calls fouls when a player uses his hands. That is a hugh disadvantage to MU. They will call every little ticky tac foul on us. We need refs that will let the players play.

denverMU

If we play our style of pushing the pace and driving to the basket we can force foul calls against WI and they have no bench.

bilsu

I think the premise that UW has no bench is incorrect. They are not likely to have to go beyond playing Brust, Wilson and Kaminsky. I do not expect Jones and Anderson to play, which means we will use 9 players to UW's 8.

Intelligent preview of MU on the buckyboard....followed by a bunch of typical stupidity.

ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!  Why did you make me read those comments?  Ol' Red Foreskin hasn't changed and the rest of them sound like high school kids whose big brother goes to uw at Madison.

I think you need to check your assumptions.  If we force them to play defense and get into foul trouble they will need to play their reserves, who play very little and are not good.  WI plays 6 players 25+ min/game Wilson and Kaminsky played 1 and 6 minutes against BYU and scored 0 and 2 points respectively.  MU plays 9 players 14+ minutes a game. My point is we have more quality players who play more quality minutes.

Litehouse

If UW has to play Wilson and Kaminsky significant minutes, that is a huge advantage for us.

Exactly my point, MU has a better starting 5 and a much better bench.

This game follows the same script every darn year. We have better athletes and individual players. They play zone which neutralizes individual play and athletism. If our guys can play smart, find the soft spots in the zone, we have a great chance to win.

Bucky has never played zone under Ryan.    They play a helping man to man similar to what IU played under Knight.

For MU to win, the Warriors will have to defend the 3, rebound, and not get caught up in a half court game. Tough task and terrible match-up, especially in Madison.

That's funny, this is the first year in a few that I like how we match up.  I think it is a bad match up for UW.  Who does Brust guard?  Can UW stay with MU's speed/athletes?  As I stated, I like this match up ... a lot.

As for rebounding, that is said every game.  Yet, MU perserveres.  This, though, is not your typical UW team.  Gone are Leuer and Nankivil.  Berggren does not strike fear into me as a rebounder.  Bruesewich will need to shoulder more of the load.

I expect bo to have his 5 stay off the boards.  Similar to a few years back, with the amigo's.  He will be afraid of the run outs and fast breaks.

Add depth to the equation, does UW go more than 6 deep?  MU can go 11 without a great deal of drop off.

Guard pressure will be an advantage to MU.

I've been begging MU to press against these guys for years!  Considering our athleticism and depth relative to UW, I don't see why we can't make an attempt at harassing their lack of ball handlers.  I suspect my wish will go unanswered once again.

Could not have been stated better. Buzz coaches for dividends in March, not in early Dec.  This game will be used as a learning tool for late season BE games.
Higgins, Hightower, or Burr all love to steal the show and BO knows how to play into that.  What is it again?  155-12?  Suspect, that's all I'm sayin'.  ;)

Refs that let the players play is one of the things that is ruining basketball. If fouls were called as they should be, after a few games of fouling out in the first half, the players would adjust.
