Despite rumors, Durley remains fully committed to Marquette

Aaron Durley, a 6-foot-11 inch forward from Houston, re-affirmed his committment to Marquette University, six days after unconfirmed reports surfaced that he would not be attending in the fall of 2012. Jim Hicks of RCS Sports reported last Monday that ... Continue reading →

Does this mean that Durley hasn't been "run off"? Furthermore, will those made giddy by the rumors go back into hibernation until something else negative (real or imagined) is reported about MU?

Just as an aside, how did everybody miss this for the last several days?  Did the original, erroneous tweet really come out on 11/21?    And the scout board missed it, too.    Weird.

Is Durley hurt?  The reason I ask is that in reading through Hicks' tweets, he hardly is playing in his high school games...including a DNP and a 37 second game.

Add that as one more thing to be thankful for as an MU fan: a huge center and a caring mom who are supportive of MU!

He tore his Achilles last year and his team has another D1 post player.

But he played full-time this summer.  So the achilles injury really can't be the issue.  And I know there is a high-major center in front of him.  But have you ever heard of a high-major prospect only getting a minute or two a game in this situation?

I'd be lying if I said this doesn't concern me...

Does Jim Hicks still self-promote himself as the "#1 info source of Greater Houston Basketball"???

If so, I would like to reiterate my position that said ranking is probably just as reliable as a pre-season coaches poll.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

There are plenty of high school teams that manage to play two, three, or even four DI prospects in their team. crap, I watch them on a nightly basis here in Jersey even when they come off injury or have two prospects at one position.

If you can play, you will play. No matter the level.

We're now using one persons twitter account to draw conclusions on a player, of which how many of those tweets actually referenced Durley?  I understand its a message board, but might we be a bit early in drawing any kind of conclusion?
"A Plan? Oh man, I hate plans. That means were gonna have to do stuff. Can't we just have a strategy......or a mission statement."

That is why I asked the question.  This hasn't been updated in a couple of weeks, but I do see that he had a DNP earlier this year.

mu03eng

Yeah, I saw that page too....that was why my response was what it was....after the DNP there are no stats, is he not playing or just not an updated page.

Certainly a wisp of smoke, but I'm willing to ignore it for now

His high school coach says he's ahead of where Otule was in high school.  Since he coached both players he should know.  That is a pretty good recommendation.  Also think of the path many big men take.  Former Buck Swen Nater is an example. http://www.coachswen.com/Swen%20Nater's%20Bio.htm

JamilJaeJamailJrJuan

Not to be negative, but I also find it concerning that he cannot crack the rotation of a high school basketball team. If the dude isn't good enough to play a lot of minutes as a senior in HS, how can we expect him to make a difference at MU? Again, just an honest question, and yes, I do realize he is a project.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Ridley might be getting the big chunk of mins to boost his stats for all American candidacy.  Just speculation.  Not sure if they play on the court together but chances are they don't.

And that is why I don't want to jump to conclusions.  I doubt Ridley and he can be on the floor at the same time (a la Otule and Gardner).

Additionally, too lazy to look but is Ridley committed to a team at this point?  Could be showcasing for High major teams

Fans are an interesting lot....for YEARS people here and within the general MU basketball community have lamented our inability to land bigs.  Now we land a big like Durley, and people are jumping to conclusions that he's no good because he isn't putting up big numbers on his High School team, etc.

Have Buzz and staff not earned a bit of latitude when it comes to talent evaluation/player development?  Otule and Gardner are the best 2 big men at MU since Merritt/Jackson, and prior to that, McIlvaine and Key.  Wes Matthews, Lazar, Jimmy Butler, Otule, all made large strides in their games under Buzz and staff.

Sure, we'd all like a 5-star big, but that may never be in the cards.  After all the complaining about MU never getting bigs...I just find it rather ironic people are now complaining about the caliber of big project signed...

Actually I didn't jump to conclusions.  I read the tweets...came here to ask a couple of questions...and looked up additional information.

In fact I specifically said "I don't want to jump to conclusions."

So, again, if you just expect people to post nothing but Buzz-love here, that's fine.  But it would be pretty boring.
