The announcers were saying he was the best option at the end of the game tie it (only saw the last 20 seconds of 2OT).  Although he missed the final shot was cool to hear him being praised.  Good for him.

BEAST!  16-17 from the line, 8-15 from the field.  20 boards.

I am really happy for the guy.

Markusquette

Very impressive stats.  I think it's time to end all the 2 guard jokes, getting rather old :P

I'm making fun of his dad.  I won't over do it, IMO.  But its unlikely I'll stop completely.   ;D
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

BM1090

He is unbelievably built. He has almost zero body fat and was just pushing people around almost like Dejuan Blair used to do.

The thing that surprised me was how quick he was. 3 or 4 times he got the ball at the top and just blew by his guy for an easy two points.

I think his old man was right. The offense needs to run through Jeronne.

Maybe its the new coach. Is he a junior now?

Yes.  Sat out the 2nd half of his Freshman year and 1st half of Sophomore year (last year).  Pearl never used him.  Maybe the necklace should have been fired for coaching instead.   :o

Golden Avalanche

Excellent game for the kid. Hope it can serve as a confidence boasting breakout. Perhaps he becomes a prime performer for him.

Maymon got kudos for his game from our players so I don't see how anyone outside the program could be upset at him.

Goodman kind of had a weird tweet:

Didn't realize Jeronne Maymon went for 32 & 20 in the Tennessee's loss to Memphis earlier. Think Buzz Williams should have played him more.

Am I reading too much into this or is that kind of a jab at Buzz? I know we've heard they are good friends, but he hasn't seemed super friendly to us this year.

Either way, happy to see Jeronne doing well. If he had his choice back then I think he would still be at MU. He looks jacked this year and seems to have worked hard. Still doesn't have a ton of athleticism, but seems to have made up for that with strength and knowing how to use his body. Good for him.

That is weird, esp. because Buzz did play him. Maymon got minutes, which is what made the transfer such a weird situation.

Goose

I am happy for him and unhappy it did not work out at MU.

This might be a dumb question but how does the midseason transfer work?  He sat out the 2nd half of his freshman season and 1st half of his sophomore season.  So does he get the 1st half of his 5th year in college to play basketball and then he's done?  Could he "redshirt" for the first half of that season and play the 2nd half instead?

mviale

Tenn looks like a good team, while Memphis looks poorly coached again.
You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

Playing 1 second during an academic year = using a full year of eligibility to compete.

Maymon would have had more minutes last year at MU.

Gotcha.  Thanks.  Would suck to transfer midseason then.

Have spoken about this in a number of topics.  Pastner is a terrible coach at this point.  Great recruiter, but just a friend of the players.  He's young, so we'll see if he ever gets it as an actual coach.

Tulsa Warrior

Buzz was right on about what Maymon needed to do to get to the next level -- build up his body and mature.  He needed time to develop.  Dad was a load to deal with and hurt his son's development.  The move away from family helped Jeronne.  He needed to take that journey to reach his potential.  Buzz knew what he was giving up when Maymon was sent packing.  It delivered an important and couragous message to Jeronne and his former teammates. (tough love)

Things have worked out for Maymon and for Marquette. (Would a scholarship been open for Jae Crowder if Maymon stayed?)

Judging from the Twitter messages from Marquette players and what Buzz has said in the past the relationship with Jeronne is positive and supportive.  Maymon needed to light a fire in his soul and Buzz helped him to it.

77ncaachamps

I think Maymon could get those numbers now that he's the "man" at Tenn.

He had to take a back seat - or bruce pearl ineffectively utilized him, whatever - to the other alpha dogs.

Then again, maybe Memphis isn't that good...or well-coached.

Here's a gem from ESPN (http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/39889/numbers-to-know-vol-pulls-a-blake-griffin):

"Tennessee junior Jeronne Maymon had never scored more than 14 points or pulled down more than 12 rebounds in his career. In Tuesday's 99-97 double overtime loss to the Memphis, he came out of nowhere for 32 points and 20 rebounds. That performance put him in some pretty elite company.

Maymon became the first power six conference player with a 30-point, 20-rebound game since Blake Griffin. Before that, the previous two were Michael Beasley and Kevin Durant. The last Tennessee player with a 30-20 game was Steve Hamer in the 1996 SEC Tournament. Maymon hit 16 free throws, the most by a Vol since Tony White (18) in 1987. "

Almost reads like an inside joke Goodman has with Buzz.  Kind of poking fun at Maymon's dad and their decision to transfer?

Just saw the boxscore of Tenn.'s game against Chaminade.  Maymon only played two minutes.

Anyone watch game, was he hurt?

dgies9156

Who cares?

If you want to write about this, find a VolFan blog and let all the VolFans (the six that can read and write) know how lucky they are to have Jeronne.

We have a great team. We are 5-0. We have some tough matches ahead of us.

Let's worry about that and not some Orangenecks in East Tennessee, or some Madison guy who found his way in the South.
