do the Gators come after Crean? Gotta think so and he'll take the bait. Lots of advantages to coaching there including no state income tax along with no need for tanning beds.

Arkansas, UK or Florida, Michigan some really good jobs are open right now.

Lets say TC leaves, is anyone worried a player (Wes or Jerel) goes with?  That would scare me the most.  Kind of like the ghost of Ron Curry coming back to haunt us.

Why would they go with Crean....he can't coach so I can't imagine anyone following him.

I doubt any players would leave with Crean or because TC left......Cords' philosophy was that a student/athlete committed to the institution not the coach in any sport.  He held firm when KO left and when Deane left -- sure we will have a new AD, but that's part of the culture at least.

I don't Wes or Jerel leaving but I would think Dom would leave even if he is borderline first round pick and maybe 1 or 2 incoming freshmen might bolt along with Williams probably moving on.

I know that the idea is that kids are supposed to commit to the school and not the coach but that is more the exception than the rule.

I honestly see UK as the only possible destination for Crean. Assuming Donovan takes it, Crean will be here. If Donovan shoots 'em down, I will be very concerned, but as I've said before, if Kentucky wants Crean,  he should take it.

Agreed.  Unfortunately, I don't think Donovan will take it.

if Donovan wins it all, he's gone.
FL has to pay big time for Urban winning it all in football... don't know if they can or want to match a 3+ possible mill. contract for Donovan.-- football is still king down there.... 4 jr's potentially leave for the nba.  ducks may be lining up for billy at UK

can't see TC in FLA....

Nukem2

Yeah, TC is not going to Florida or Arkansas.  He has no ties to those areas and its not like he is an assistant who is willing to move anywhere just to get a HC job.  UK would be awfully tempting as he does have a history in the area at Western KY (along with the family connections there at that time) along with the UK $$$ and tradition (albeit somewhat shopworn at this time ).  I think Donovan will end up at UK though as he has been very elusive in his answers to questions and its going to be hard to repeat the back-to-back Final 4s ( and potential back-to-back titles).

Obviously, I have no idea what will happen.  But, in my opinion, Donovan won't leave Florida.  As much as I hate it, I think Florida is building something pretty special down there.  They've got a football coach who rejected mighty Notre Dame and then won a championship.  Now, they've got a chance to have the basketball coach who rejected Kentucky and won at least one championship.  A few weeks ago, Sports Illustrated ran a cover article on Ohio State ("The Program").  I think that if they can keep Meyer and Donovan, Florida has a chance to make it laughable to refer to any other school as "The Program."  Sure, it'll cost them, but it might be worth it.

I agree.  UK is very tempting for any coach, including TC.  I think Donovan is going to take it or they would have moved on.  The image is tarnished there and environment tough, but is a top job.  I don't think it is a good TC fit, but it is tempting for him or any ambitious coach.

I don't know that Florida is as attractive in the short term as they have to reload and those are tough expectations to fill.  But, long term it is a great situation because of the recruiting base.  Yet, it is a football is king school.

As I said before in the Majerus thread, I don't think the U of A job is as attractive as others claiming.  Latest F4 rumor is that TC is now in that hunt.  Sutton hated it there after major disagreements.  Richardson sued for racism.  And, Heath was screwed over after rebuilding a mess and taking them to the big dance the last two years.  History of winning yes, but lots of NCAA problems and low graduation rates.  Not really a TC fit.  Here is an article on Broyles and how they handle things there--a mess.

Billy Donovan wins 2nd NCAA Championship in a row and leaves for bluer pastures. Who are you guys kidding? He has proved he can recruit at FL and there is no reason to leave.Would you  leave  Kingship in England to be King of France? You don't build something to walk away. These upper echelon programs will rely on one year players and there is no difference b/w schools at this time. Should Coach K have gone to Kentucky? Stop listening to Kentucky fans and believing that everyone wants their job. They don' t even own controlling interest of Churchill Downs anymore!

DAtruth

no player would leave mu if crean left..wm jm and dj all are looking at the pro game in 1-2 yrs..sitting out a season sets you back even further..of course this is assuming the coach they bring in would be likeable and respectable

Does anybody have an opinion on Jerry Schisting as a short term replacement in lieu of Rick?  I doubt Crean leaves.  Just asking.

I don't think he's ever done any recruiting before.

Just curious if the players like him, etc.  I heard he is fairly vocal in practice, offering opinions on game plan...blah, blah.

Is he the top assistant or further down the bench?  Would he do in a pinch?  Sometimes the NBA experience gives them cred with the players.  Although I would doubt any current players are familiar with his body of work in the NBA.  They didn't even have VCR's back then.
