West Virginia sues the Big East to release them from the conference

Written by: noreply@blogger.com (muwarrior92)

The Big East bylaws state a 27 month waiting period before exiting from the Big East conference.  Don't like the 27 month time period?  No problem....lawyer up.  That's exactly what WVU has done by suing the Big East conference today.  Claiming that the Big East actions (or in actions) caused greater instability with the conference left WVU with no alternative but to grab another invite to a more stable conference.  Or so the argument goes.  For more information, here is a link to the story.

Not surprising...but I have questions.

Was there no waiting period for BC, Miami and VTech? Further, why didnt the BE sue those schools for damages? Instead, Rutgers, UConn and Pitt filed suit. Why didnt the leadership do anything then? I read that their lawsuit took 3 years and BC (the only school those three schools sued) settled for $5M in damages. Was it worth it when you take into consideration the court and attorney fees? Maybe it was to Pitt but not Rutgers and UConn who are currently on the outside looking in. Also, did the BC case set a precedent that the courts will follow? Would that allow WVU to leave early for $5M plus $5M more? Seems cheap.

No, because as I understand it, the BE bylaws and constitution have since been revised because of that very case.

I want this quote to serve as a reminder to the vast majority of scoop posters in regards to the MU BB program.
