Thomas Hamilton
« on: October 07, 2011, 07:01:25 AM »
Anyone know anything about Thomas Hamilton from Illinois, Class of 2013? He's a top 30 overall, center, and has offers from Illinois and MSU according to rivals? Is this a guy we are interested in, or should be?

Thanks

We're interested, at least. I've heard that Benford has watched him. Not sure what priority level he is. The ideal is for a big and a PG with our last two 2012-13 scholarships. But if a top-20 type switchable drops into your lap, do you pass? I don't think so.

EDIT: I was thinking of Paul White, but I know we've at least watched Hamilton.

His father was anything but a star there. He was a very highly rated disappointment.

I'll agree with that, used wrong term, but the fact his father went there will help them.

I beleive those that feel we will sign a big and a PG with the next 2 openings are using flawed logic.  We will have 3 pgs in the program next year.  We will have two the year after that and they will both be sophomores.  Unless, Buzz decides throughout the course of this year that D. Wilson is simply not a BE PG and that TJ Taylor rated a 94 on ESPN can no longer get it done he will not necessarily need a PG.  Not to mention it can be more difficult to bring in a big time Frosh PG when there are 2 sophs on the roster.

My guess is Buzz signs at leat one 4-5, and a 2-4 with the other.  MY hope is for a 6'8"+ player this year and kendrick Nunn for next.
But then i could be wrong he might sign two PG's.

Pretty exciting to thing about TJ Taylor ( I believe about 6'4" and 225) and a guy like Deonte Burton (6'5 - 235lbs) being on the floor.  Add in Derrick Wilson and his physique, and MU will be ultra physical/muscular on the perimeter.  Combine them with a few greyhounds like Jamil Wilson, Juan Anderson, Vander, Jamail...and then Devante anchoring the middle - pretty darn physical and diverse team.
"I'm not sure Cadougan would fix the problems on this team. I'm not even convinced he would be better for this team than DeWil is."

Was his dad Lowell Hamilton? I remember he played for Providence St. Mel when I was in high school. Make me feel old.

Did he even play there? I thought he was recruited there, but was academically ineligble and left.

I think his dad was Tommy Hamilton - who played with Rashard Griffin (Madison) at Chicago King ages ago.

That's him.  He was huge and never got his weight under control.  Won state while at King...two seven footers on a high school team was ridiculous. Signed with Illinois, was ineligible so never played. Played in the NBA for a handful of games with Boston and Houston.

Buzz has said he wants a PG each class, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a switchable for 2012. It really comes down to if Buzz believes Wilson and Taylor (or others) can handle the point when Cadougan graduates. We are still in on switchables for 2012.

i understand that he has stated he wants a 1 and a 5 in every class, but at the end of the day that is not practical.  technically, that would leave him with 4 1's , 4 5's and 5 players for the 2-4.  not gonna happen.  If derrick shows well and TJ shows well at JUCO really no need for a PG until 2014 class.

You're confusing him with Alexander Jefferson.

I will guarantee Buzz recruits a point guard in the 2013 class.  I'm not sold on TJ Taylor being a full time point guard at this level especially since he'll have to defend the position and with Cadougan graduating in 2013, Buzz will add one.

If it was up to me I'd add Aaron Durley to this class and let him develop behind Otule and Gardner and then add a point guard to go with Deonte Burton in 2013.

I expect a big and a point, but what if a can't-pass switchable comes along?  Do you turn down a Keith Frazier or Brannen Greene if they want to come?

I'm probably different than Buzz, but yes I do target positions and want certain positions stocked correctly and I think you need 4 out of the 13 scholarships to go to center types and point guards.

In the end it doesn't matter what I think and I could be off base with Aaron Durley or anyone else in this class.  The coaches have seen these guys work out and will hopefully make the best decision for the program.

I'm hoping but not relying on Mayo/D.Wilson and/or TJ Taylor to step into the PG spot. It sounds as if Buzz is constantly looking for PG's in each class just like he said he would. Finding quality PG's are not easy to come by though. I have a really good feeling about TJ Taylor. It seems that some on here forget how highly regarded he was coming out of HS. Here is a link to an interview when he was still with OKlahoma...which i apologize considering I'm sure it's already been posted.

I believe he committed to play for Syracuse so he could play in the ACC
