More Big East happenings....Big 12 moving on TCU?

Written by: noreply@blogger.com (muwarrior92)

The latest news reported today is the Big 12 moving in to take TCU before TCU even becomes a member of the Big East.  The report comes from Star Ledger and can be found here.

The Big East is scheduled to meet this Sunday with university Presidents making up the Big East membership.  The agenda is to determine how the Big East is to proceed in the new reality they find themselves in.

Hmm...I've heard that Texas is trying to block other Texas-based schools. I get TCU from a football perspective, but Texas' continued push for their LHN leads me to believe they care far more about money than they do conference survival. I just wouldn't get them allowing another Texas school into the Big 12.

99% of TCU fans would already have the Longhorn Network in their cable package.  So, it doesn't get more cable packages necessarily, but would get more eyes on the channel.  If the Big 12 adds Loserville and WVU, do those cable markets ever realistically put a Longhorn Network on their cable packages?  I don't see it.   TCU might be a way for them to keep the Big 12 as-is with Texas pocketing all of the cable network money.

Latest word on local (Dallas) ESPN  affiliate is that schools "outside Texas" (read OU) are making the push for adding TCU to the mix. Seems they want to push DeLoss Dodds (UT's AD) into agreeing to it in order to test UT's commitment to keeping the Big 12 viable.

Same sources are saying it's highly possible but still early in the process.

Word in KC now is that the Big XII is looking to expand up to 14, with WVU, BYU, TCU, Ville, Cincy. Just what I am hearing from KC radio "sources." Everyone is still staring at Mizzou. I would like to think we finally figure all this out on Tuesday after Mizzou's BOR meeting...but Im guessing this speculation goes on for another 2-3 years before it all figures itself out.

Just frustrating, since we are pretty much along for the ride.
