To answer your question, it will be something like this: "I said the Big East should be proactive, and they weren't.  The Big XII was proactive, so we made the move."

I love Pitino's comments about Temple, but I wonder if Nova is trying to keep them out of the picture.  If the BEast picked up Temple, it would probably convince Navy/AF that we're for real and they would say yes to our offer too.  That's 16 basketball and 10 football members.  With the big payday coming next fall I could see schools like Louisville deciding to stick it out in the conference where (as Pitino notes) all of their sports are winning championships (ND-56, Ville-40, MU-3 since 2006).

It'll be interesting to see how this one plays out.  L'Ville offers a unique situation where BBall brings in all the money compared to football.  Also, the Big 12 doesn't look much more stable than the Big East right now.

So should I take Ricky P's words as genuine thoughts or just smoke and mirrors for their possible move somewhere?

It it were up to all the BE Basketball coaches, I'm pretty sure none of them would have changed a thing and would try to keep the current BE together forever (see Boeheim's comments about ACC).

However, it appears they've had very little say in the conference decisions made thus far.

The rumor wave is indicating that UL was accepted to the Big12 and an announcement will happen in the next day or two. We'll see.

Any Sources?

So it sounds like Louisville is still in talks, or accepted, or whatever to the Big XII, but Pitino wants to save the Big East and stick together. I know that sometimes coaches and presidents aren't always on the same page when it comes to this kind of stuff, but it just seems kinda weird that he's blogging about it (and has been blogging about it since the conference-shifting started).
I'm Ron Burgundy?

One of the cinch posters keeps insisting cinch and l ills will stay in the beast unless it falls apart before him.

Hope he knows something, but who knows.

pitino an hoops are big enough at lville that he has a lot more leeway than most, I assume. Internal debates are usually more hard-hitting than external battles - just usually not public.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

More Pitino... If things work out, we might have to thank him for at least voicing his opinion. Nobody else seems to want to publicly share his opinion though.  I'm actually warming up to the guy..at least for now.

Pure comedy....you couldnt write a better script. A bball coach that had no problem cheating on his wife is now professing loyalty to a freaking conference and people are listening to him. It's the same coach that is known as 'Slick Rick.' It's the same coach that left UK to go to UL.

I have a feeling that this guy is just setting himself for an easy departure from UL since he probably has no interest in coaching in the B12.

And why any fball school would want to stay committed to the BE is beyond me, especially when the SEC, ACC and PAC still have slots to fill.

You make it sound as though Pitino went directly from UK to UL. Um, there was a stint with the Celtics in there.

Im aware. If Buzz had a stint with the Golden State Warriors before coaching UW, Im guessing plenty of people would still have a problem with it.

But I doubt anyone outside of MU would see, or have, anything wrong with it.

Your initial comment was misleading, at best.

Journalist: So what happened after you were introduced to Rick Pitino?

Karen Sypher: He sweet-talked me for about 20 minutes.

Journalist: Then what happened?

Karen Sypher: He fu#*ed me.

So Pitino already sweet-talked the BE conference. Whats next?

GGGG

Cmon guys...this is just a cheerleading blog post about the quality of Dick Vitale's "artilcles" on ESPN.com.  He isn't as much advocating that Louisville stay in the BE, as much as he is asserting that the conference will have a strong future.  Since Louisville isn't publically stating anything differently, he is consistent with what UL is saying.

You can be damn sure that if UL leaves to the B12, Pitino's blog will read something like "Yeah we will miss the Big East, but we are looking forward to our future battles with Kansas and Texas."

brewcity77

I'm not a fan of Pitino's personally, but at least someone at a football school is saying something positive about the Big East. He might have all the trustworthy traits of a used-car salesman, but right now, I'd love to hear the same from Calhoun, Cronin, Rice, or any of the other basketball coaches at football schools.

Pitino will go with UL wherever they end up, but at least he has the sack to make a statement that he likes it in the Big East. I really wish some other coaches would sack up and say the same.

I always thought that being affiliated with a specific conference was something that would last decades. Maybe 20 years, maybe 30, maybe 50. Who knows. With that said, why the heck would a school ask for input from its coaches? Should USF ask Skip Holtz what the university should do? Im guessing he wont be there in 5 years and its not like its his alma mater. Brian Kelly's advice to UC when he was the coach there: "Umm...stick with Notre Dame, maybe? I dunno." How about Lane Kiffin, Urban Meyer, Randy Edsall, Pete Carroll...?
