Not sure how accurate this is, but if they do bolt they said the Big East would hold them the the 5 million buy out.

tower912

Actually a far more logical choice for them.

GOO

Good luck on the BE collecting the 5 million.  TCU kind of got screwed and there were material changes before they even joined the conference.

GGGG

There were some rumors going around yesterday that TCU, BYU and either Louisville or WVU would get B12 invites.

GOO

Just for discussion purposes.  If MU and DePaul got invites to the B12, do we take it or stick with the BE?  That would be a tough decision.

As an academic exercise, please list all other BCS conferences with basketball-only schools.     B12 is not going to come calling.    Although that might be the one way to get Buzz.   ;D       For now.

Not going to happen, but good question... I think staying with Gtown would be good, but it depends how committed the rest of the b12 would be. If they poach a couple big east teams and are in it for the long haul, then jump.

Stick with the BE, IMO.
Long term, we're better off staying tight with the likes of Georgtown, Nova, St. John's, ND, etc. - for the possible/likely coming of a hoops-only league - than running with a football-dominated conference whose members would be more willing to cast aside the basketball-only interlopers if/when it suits their purposes.

Ugh. This is getting fugly. If the BE holds TCU to the $5M opt-out, I see a lawsuit where no one wins except the attorneys.

A bball-only conference is not a wealthy one, thats for sure. Seton Hall University is in financial trouble all by itself. Georgetown sold tickets to a game or two using Groupon. I see less money than we are currently getting from a media rights deal and Pitt and Cuse didnt do anyone any favors when it comes to gameday revenue (which isnt shared among schools). Both of those schools had alums that traveled well around the northeast and definitely subsidized SHU, PU, SJU and GU home games. Nevermind all the tickets they bought for the BE tournament.

more big east tourney tickets for us then

Big East.  Now if they invited 2 or more Big East football schools we'd have to consider it, if it also includes Georgetown and/or Villanova we would have to do it.

Depends on what they signed.  There are material changes, but that does not necessarily allow them to bolt without paying the exit fee.

bilsu

I doubt they would have to pay the fee. Even, if they did they would make it up over time in travel cost savings. I think this would also eliminate Air force and Houston from the list of possible teams. Without TCU I would expect any new football teams to be east of the Mississippi.
