I know AnonymousEagle addressed this already (with logical arguments and evidence, even!), but I'm guessing it's a decent contigent, since I've seen three or four threads on MU starting up football--STOP.  JUST STOP IT.  Enough with the DERP already.

1.  It won't do any good at all with the situation at hand; it won't solve anything.  Quite frankly, I would bet heavily it would make everything WAY worse.

2.  It would be a huge, Sarlacc-esque pit sucking money.

3.  There is no conference for us to join, and no one in their right minds would take us.  Oh, and no stadium.

4.  The team itself would be a complete joke and laughing stock (even more so than Pitt and "Pinstripe Bowl participant" Syracuse football, if that is possible)

5.  We'd have to add a helluva lot of lady sports to title IX compensate, too.

If MU kept FB instead of dropping it in the 60's, we probably would not even be in the BE right now.  MU probably would be in a mid-major conference for both FB and BB in that case.  MU's history simply would have gone a different direction than it has.  The FB stuff is simply goofy.

However, if we bring back the Warrior nickname, and rightfully so, we'd have an invite to the ACC also.

As an immediate goal, no.  Absolutely not.  An immediate D1 team can't happen logistically/financially in any way.

Something that should be explored in the coming years as the college sports landscape continues to change, absolutely.

Just be sure to explore what three or four women's teams we'll field to match the number of footballers, and consider whether the dream stadium could accommodate several sports.

As a respondent noted, my scholarship endowment figure of a few days ago needs to be doubled to and probably well beyond $70 million (I had momentarily ignored Title IX, something the pigskin partisans don't appear to factor)

I don't think it's realistic for MU to have a football team.

That being said, if we ever do start a team I say we cut all Men's sports besides basketball to make Title IX room.  No reason to start up new sports that lose money and nobody goes to watch besides the athlete's parents.

Once the "haves" (the "chosen 64") and the "have-nots" are determined, I will not surprise me too much if more schools drop football or drop down to a lower division.  Football is going to be immensely profitable for the select few elite programs, but an even bigger money pit than before for others.  My personal opinion is that Marquette needs to avoid becoming of if the "others."

Two (related) outcomes might result from this:  1) a stronger and more exciting D1(FCS); and 2) more "basketball only" schools to join our conference.

But then again, who the hell knows...

But the uniforms would be amazing!

Fact is, it's the Green Bay Packers' fault that MU no longer has football. And football will never return to Milwaukee unless A) an alum donates upwards of $100m for the stadium, and to compensate for the money that the school would hemorrhage AND B) the UFL becomes a legit option/ UWM breaks off and starts a team which would further defray the costs

Here's the piece that Lab Warrior was referring to. I wrote it. You tell me what's changing any time soon.
