Well...I guess the catholic conference would be the long term proactive thing, but definitely not as exciting as an option as joining up with the Big 12 castoffs.

It seems like adding teams will be the first option. 4 teams, at least, I guess would have to be added if the 5 schools dropout.

- Kansas
- Baylor
- Kansas State
- Iowa State
- Missouri?
- Memphis?

If those schools were added, the new Big East wouldn't be as strong at the top as the ACC, but still could pull 10 bids at the end of the day.

kusports thinks it is the best option for them, not sure if that means anything. (edit... it helps that a MU grad is writing the article)

If Kansas/Kansas State/Missouri joined to replace Pitt/Syracuse,  would UConn, Rutgers, and West Virginia consider staying?

Football schools (10):

Louisville
UCONN
Rutgers
West Virginia
South Florida
Cincinnati
Kansas
Kansas State
TCU
Missouri

i'd add ia state and baylor too making the big east a 12 team football conference. baylor would give tcu an instate rival.

Another relevant article, not sure if it has been posted on this forum yet.

My favorite quote(s) from that article:

QuoteTexas A&M will become the 13th member of the Southeastern Conference once its legal hurdles are cleared, and Missouri could be No. 14. The SEC has no interest in approaching Missouri. But if the Big 12 dwindled to the point where Missouri had nowhere to go, Missouri may look to the financial security of the SEC. Despite Missouri's reservations about joining the SEC, to do so would be safer than exploring the unknown.

In other words, Mizzou doesnt want SEC, SEC doesnt want Missou. Ipso facto, Mizzou will join SEC.  Quality reporting, regardless of how true any of those statements are in and of themselves.
